ENTRAVISION BEATS CC TO THE PUNCH!

Heads rolled today at Entravision Sacramento. Shown the door from 101.9 The Wolf Promotions and Marketing Director Don Langford, his assistant, many year market vet and Production Director Rick Shannon, plus Midday host Michele.
The night gal moves into middays, nights will come off the bird.

I don't know if this should be considered a race.

This is sad news.

I'm really sad to hear about Rick and Don. They have good names in the market and I'm sure they will end up on their feet in no time. Did Michelle move to Sacramento for this job?

I agree Michael. It sucks when good people get canned, and Don and Rick are great guys. In the last 12 months I know of too many kind, talented folks in Sacramento alone that this has happened to, and with the CC post it seems more are looming. There's going to be even more in a couple of months when Metro closes its doors.

Wow, both Don (who i worked for for a short time before KRAK went away) and Rick are both talented guys who's loss can only hurt the Wolf. Don's promotions and marketing are a very large reason the Wolf has seen the success that it has. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!

Sure, times are tough and revenue is down, but damn....I'm betting they were still turning a profit. A wise man knows that it's often best to ride out the tough times, knowing brighter days are ahead.

Michael, I THINK Michelle was here initially to work for Metro, they liked her and hired her. If I remember right (and it's possible I don't) she came up from the central valley

...which may or may not coincide with this quote from baseball legend Leo Durocher:
"If you don't win, you're going to be fired. If you do win, you've only put off the day you're going to be fired."

A Sacramento Magazine article and Michelle's website say she emanated from the
PNW (Pacific Northwest). Michelle's website:

And she looks dang good for "101 years old"...
;D

Rick, Don, Michelle...we hope you get back in the biz quickly!

Jay, while I'm right with you in spirit, I don't think I'd say the same thing. Radio is fast becoming a pale shadow of what it once was, and is an increasingly hostile environment for enthusiastic, dedicated and downright nice people like these three (four if you include Ashley Robison, who was Don's assistant and...if I'm reading the original post correctly...also lost her job yesterday). I would wish instead that all these people find work in an industry where they love what they do and they're appreciated for their talents...and increasingly, radio ain't that industry.

No More Jeffs has a good point. However, maybe radio in general will change due to the recession. Maybe, just maybe, new local ownership will take over these corporate stations. No more Lincoln Financial INC.

Example: A group of radio pros buy one radio station and actually run it. A rag tag team of owners who just want to create fun radio and make money too. Is that unrealistic?

Langford's a good man...old school, which isn't a bad thing; he can tell you about the times when the business was fun AND profitable. Sorry to hear about ANYONE who gets the axe, but particularly this time.

stay tuned my friend, I do believe something to that effect is getting ready to pop up in the next couple of months...

That would be very cool! And of course, this ol' radio pro can be reached via PM! Out of full time work right now So I couldn't offer financial assistance, but would love to help in other ways! ;D

Very sad news. Rick Shannon is a talented, class act. I'm sure he'll move on to bigger and better things and wish him the best on his way there.

Agreed, radiovictim...Don, too, though I never worked with/for him,
myself, but knew a few that had...

BTW, I understand your note, nomorejeffs, and I thank you for the reply.
But this industry NEEDS to have more people like these four that have
been let go. So while I hope they get back on their feet sooner than later in
some form of employment (as has been the case with me since I lost my
radio gig 5/15/1006), let's hope they find something they wish to do in
the field of radio...

Else, there will be MORE negatives to emanate on these boards than
positives. Need we go there?

Dude, you lost your radio gig in 1006?? Was CC in the Sacramento market back then?

No, I think CC didn't enter the scene until the year 1010.
::)
Okay, OKAY, for me it was 2006 (typo), but it sure feels a lot longer...

Wow...I got the hammer dropped on me on 7/17/06. Looks like we both had a serious case of the "Mondays" that year!

Sorry to come off so negative. I completely agree that radio needs the talent and energy of people like the (former :-[) Wolf employees...and if they can find a perfect home again in radio, more power to them AND the industry. I just hope they're appreciated - they deserve it.

Cue the Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays"...

NO, I am NOT Brenda Spencer, but I still am
jay
;D

P.S. - no apology necessary, NMJs...threads like this do things to all of us...

I worked for Cheap Channel for almost 7 years, and it seemed like a thousand... ;D

I wish I had the money and power to scoop up a bunch of the talents who have been let go within the past few years and start my own station!
