Entravision

I don't have an FM radio to verify and I'm too lazy to go out to my truck... If that's not a sign of "the health of radio", I don't know what is.

Within 10 to 15 minutes the whole cluster was back up. I was in and out of the grocery stores with my wife and noted all back on by 6:30. No worries Stewie, I wouldn’t have bothered checking either! ;)

It was actually a bit longer than 10-15 minutes from what I understand. I was driving through Calaveras and Amador Counties around 4-5pm yesterday and the Entravision cluster was running dead air then as well...

Not good for an outage to screw with Friday drive time spots! I'm assuming it was an IT issue given it's widespread nature throughout the cluster.

As stated in my original post, “as of 6PM”; how long they were off the air is not debated. It was when I discovered it. The full cluster was operation by 6:30PM. For all I know it went off at 8AM that morning. Agreed Friday evening into a weekend is a horrible time for automation or electrical services to run awry.

Could be IT related, but also could be any of these examples:

- Power failure and generator did not turn on.
- Building evacuated due to threat like fire, bomb threat, crazy person in building, etc.
- Lightning strike on nearby power lines took out power and genny transfer switch
- Operator error or computer error locked thing up
- Ransomware in digital system
- Earthquake
- An idiot did something to the microwave mast on the studio roof.

My worst case was when a group of guerillas took over my first station, beat up the DJ, gave a short speech and then broke equipment.

I've had all of the things on the little list above except ransomware happen to me. Twice had stations "silenced" by military teams during a coup d'etat. Once had guerillas bomb the bank on the building ground floor, and we all hid in case they came up to other floors.

Also had DJs fall asleep, even had one case where the DJ saw trolls or gnomes in the offices at night and took off in fear for his life. A couple of times had DJs pass out drunk, and one time DJ got distracted on the lobby shag carpet... probably why the Brits call it shagging!

David, Glad you and your staff survived through those experiences. I can imagine how terrifying that was for you. I got the impression it was IT or power related but one never knows. I noted the silent carriers and presence of stereo pilots indicating possible lack of power at the studio building. Nice to see all stations recovered quickly.

Well, all of those things were a lot easier to take than the several times that competitors tried to either beat me senseless or kill me (never sure which).

Someone got my twisted sense of humor. I was too lazy to go out and check... :)
