I heard the Huskers show on 93.9 myself, and am quite sure it's KSWN in McCook, Nebraska. (ESPN Radio, normally)

It was also one of the best days (and nights) in many years for ham radio operators on 6 meters (50-54 MHZ) which is located just below TV channel 2. With only 100 watts and a short vertical antenna (no gain) up merely 20 feet, I had two-way contacts with dozens of stations in California from Lexington, KY. Also heard other stations from all over the country and Mexico on the band. TV reception was interesting, too. Saw Fidel on Channels 2 and 3 (analog of course).

Here in southeast Wisconsin, I was talking to my wife that we haven't had sporadic E this year, yet. I turn on the radio after supper & the San Angelo/Abilene, TX area was open. I wanted to post, but Radio-Info was down for the upgrade.

I tuned in just past 7pm CDT & the event was totally over by about 8:15. I was using a Sangean WR-2 with a C. Crane FM Reflect dipole facing North/South.

There were so many stations fading in & out so quickly, it was so hard to get a positive ID by audio or RDS. Due to the language, the Spanish stations were impossible to ID

In that hour, I did manage to ID:

91.3 KZLV Lytle, TX Contemp. Christian "K-Love" RDS "K-LOVE" 1,084 miles
92.3 KETX Livingston, TX Classic Rock "The Eagle" 893 miles
92.9 KDCD San Angelo, TX Country "Lonestar Country" 1.017 miles
93.9 KRCN San Angelo, TX Religious "Your Voice for Hope" 994 miles
97.1 KVRP Haskell, TX Country "Big Country" 897 miles
98.7 KELI San Angelo, TX Adult Hits "Bob FM" 1,003 miles
100.1 KCCL San Angelo, TX Oldies "Cool 100" 1,009 miles
105.1 KEAN Abilene, TX Country "Today's Best Country 936 miles

The opening yesterday was phenomenal. I live in Oklahoma City and managed to hear WXYT in Detroit, WBBL in Grand Rapids, WDRV in Chicago, CHUM in Toronto, WQKT in Wooster Ohio, KRNG in Reno Nevada, WSNX in Muskegon Michigan (with RDS), KURK in Carson City NV, KIKX in Twin Falls ID.

I heard plenty of Tigers & Indians affiliates yesterday during the almost perfect game. Had I wrote down the stations where I was hearing the game and compared that with their affiliates list, I would have been able to ID several more stations. I kept hearing a traditional Jazz station at 97.1fm but never could ID it.

I've learned this site is very handy: http://www.mountainlake.k12.mn.us/ham/aprs/path.cgi?map=na

It was pretty darn good on 144 MHz (2 meters), too. From here in Memphis, I worked North Carolina, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and South Dakota. A couple of those contacts were pretty short-haul, implying a very high MUF.

Fun stuff, this.

DE

MUF was OVER 200 mHz in your area. What a joke here! AZ was picking up Eastern WA stations, I kept trying for KJZZ on 91.5 or KZAI on 89.9 but nothing.

I also noted the opening around 7P CDT. Caught KIXY-FM, San Angelo, TX (94.7) in route to La Porte, Indiana (roughly 65 miles east of Chicago at the time). No evidence of WLS-FM on that frequency for several seconds at a time. Ad for car dealership and CHR type format on KIXY.

Regards,

RememberWHEN

Nice opening here in Poughkeepsie, NY also June 2nd, with tons of FM stations from Florida to Texas to Illinois. I added nine new ones to my FM Log, bringing total to 1342 since May 2003.

Most distant new catch was KTST-101.9 "The Twister" from Oklahoma City, at 1338 miles.
Closest was WYMG-100.5 Chatham, IL at 852mi.
Lowest power catch was KESA-100.9 Eureka Springs, AR, with 1100 watts.

After 7:00 or so, Florida FM's were especially strong. At one point, previous log WTRS "Thunder Country" on 102.3 from the Ocala area was topping the frequency off the side of the antenna, when it was aimed slightly north of due west!

June's off to a great start. Let's have some more great DX conditions.
