Here in the GSP market, it's a wee bit different, this year:
MAGIC has went all Christmas, while MY, fresh from a major format flippage, has opted to both provide an all Christmas stream on their website, and slowly (correctly) add Christmas songs to their current format. I feel that it's a very smart execution. I also feel that it is smart (& cheap) for MAGIC to go all Christmas, even though I disagree with their start date.
For the last five or so years both of these AC FM's have laid claim to being "The Official Christmas Station", yet neither of the two have ever produced a notarized letterhead from Santa Claus allowing such! For me, as I look at Cox, Clear Channel, and Entercom, I have often wonder/ponder-ed as to why all the greediness. They should share equally! Maybe next year WESC or WSSL should get a chance to suit-up in the red sweater, and...maybe matching red cowboy hats? Cox: 107.3 Jamz Jingle! HOT Holiday 98.1 How 'bout "Planet Christmas"? Why should MY & MAGIC have all the festive fun?? "Rock around the 101 Christmas Tree". Let WROQ have their chance to be "The Offical Christmas Rock Station". They could write Santa for clearance just as easy. Besides, it would be interesting to see how it would sound playing the same old Christmas songs over and over, while reminding us that they are "Classics". Hmmmmmmmmmm?
