Equipment Rack Solution Needed

I've exhausted all my own resources so I'm hoping somebody may throw me a good lead on this one.

Here's what I need: I'm looking for a 19 inch equipment rack, hopefully no taller than 4 feet. I would highly prefer it have both a rear door and (highly desireable) a front plexi door. I need to co-locate some noisy equipment (fan noise) in a studio and would like to silent it by keeping it in a fairly tight rack. Venting it not a big issue as much as the noise it. I would prefer to purchase used and hopefully from an East Coast vendor to keep shipping costs to a minimum.

If you've dealt with a vendor that can help me out on this would I would appreciate the referral.

Thanks,
Bill

>Middle Atlantic (www.middleatlantic.com) has a variety of rack combinations available.

Although the plexiglass door and silencing may be rather expensive.

They have a middle range of UPS shippable racks which are just frames--I have two that are about 4 feet tall in my engineering area. You can then add doors and sides, but the costs begin to add up. However, you could always get the basic rack and make your own sides and see-through door, adding insulation for sound proofing. The back, bottom rail has knockouts for electrical feeds, and both front and back rails are threaded.

If you use BSW, they ship from Wilmington, Ohio. Middle Atlantic is in New Jersey.

Thanks for the info. I was actually hoping that someone would know of a vendor that deals with used/recliamed racks. I found one in the midwest, but the vendor's shipping cost was way too prohibitive for the budget (as they had a few "junk" handling fees tacked on - I think they were fishing to sell me a new one instead).

I see exactly what you want around here (sacramento) at the surplus electronics places. I think what you want would be described as a "server" rack. I've seen them short and tall, pretty cheap at those places. Some softer foam padding glued on the the insides of the sides and rear door would go a long way for quieting them down a bit. The other alternative is to remote the computers via a KVM extender unit. Lot's of folks make those.

Middle Atlantic makes a video rack with laminate wood sides and a plexiglass door that dampens sound well and looks nice. I'm not sure what the back is like.<P ID="signature">______________
