Hello - Anyone know the manufacture / model of the "delay unit" that WLS AM Chicago uses to capture and playout their network (ABC) news casts? This is so that don't have to time to the T-O-H. The unit can playout while still recording the same T-O-H network feed.

Regards,

I don't know what they use, but a program called "Total Recorder" works fine for my station to delay newscasts. It records them off the satellite and saves the audio as a .wav file the automation can play back. Simple. It isn't even expensive (less than $20.)

Incidentally, it can do a whole bunch of other tasks as well. www.totalrecorder.com

Whatever automation system they are using is set up to do it for them automatically.

For example nexgen has something called digital reel to reel. Once it is setup and configured correctly it just works.

Various professional automation systems can be configured to do this provided you have the inputs needed.

The same could be said for Total Recorder. I have no vested interest, but it is a lot cheaper than investing in new automation, assuming what you have is working OK for you.

Thank you, Chuck! This might be the ticket. Looks like only the Professional Edition will playback a file while you are recording that file, though. Not a problem - $36.

Back to the original question, I am sure that WLS is using an XDS Pro4 receiver to get ABC programming off the bird. It has the ability to record programs and play them back later.
