Atlantic City/Cape May Equity Atlantic City To iHeart

I've been to A/C you can't get Philly stations.
Nobody said you could. But for those driving there, you can do most of the trip listening to any of the major Philadelphia FMs, at which point you are almost there are concerned about finding your hotel or casino and parking and other stuff. Or they stream, use satellite or find a local station.

Let's hope IHM can keep it local I see they are having more local talents now than syndicated programs.

If you're in your car, on the Expressway, you can get most of them.
If you have a portable radio, sitting on the beach... depending on the time of day and year, flip a coin.
If you have a computer/phone... it is most likely there already

If you have a portable radio sitting on the beach, you can hear Long Island and Norfolk most summer nights.

On the flip side, WAYV often covers most of NJ, Philly, NYC, and Long Island.

I have never heard WAYV in North Jersey or by Philly or in Philly or NYC or on LI. What are you talking about? With an e-skip or a tropo yes. That's very rare.

He tends to be the resident "tropo expert" and so in that regard, Yes, you can hear WAYV in the locales mentioned but that's the extent of it, nothing more...

What is really unfortunate is that nobody in the US has yet followed the European model of doing a format nationally with one super production and running it in every market nationally.

Many of the European operators use online services to provide local weather for every location, as well as ongoing news updates and other services that are local or regional. Many also offer streamed format variants, like music by decade or era, feature artist days, all ballads, etc.

The end product is what I'd compare to the difference between local TV trying to do a late-night show themselves vs. running one of the "Big 3" network national show with guest stars. Radio trys to reinvent the wheel in every market instead of having a strong national product.

I'd even recommend that (despite a fear of collusion) that the bigger groups try to trade off stations and own formats nationally. I'd rather have two or three national formats in every rated market than 5 in one market, none in another and one or two in others.

Radio is much better off in nations where this is done than where it is not. We accept national programming on TV, but not on radio. I never understood that.
Isn’t this basically what EMF has been doing with KLOVE?

Most summer nights, 95.1 WAYV is there in those places, albeit weak. Some nights, WAYV booms in like a local all over.

Here’s a video of the W276AQ translator relaying WAYV in Fort Lee NJ. Yes, that means WAYV temporarily had a translator in north Jersey

Yes. Absolutely. And with that example, there should be national formats of other kinds, but nobody has put together national consolidation... just market by market grouping.

You know what's interesting, I've heard both WBGO and, most recently, WGBZ, on 103.1 FM, even though they don't have translators anywhere close to that dial. Something has to be off there.

How is that possible that WAYV was on the W276AQ translator from Fort Lee? I'm very confused. Could someone please explain this to me? Thanks.

The 103.1 in Atlantic City rebroadcasts 88.3 WVBH Beach Haven, so getting WBGO Newark and WGBZ Ocean City MD instead is explained easily there.

Because W276AQ picks up programming over-the-air from 95.1 W236CH. In that case, WAYV overloaded it.

Okay that makes more sense thank you! The WAYV overpowered W236CH on 95.1 FM.

Speaking of W276AQ, did they improve their coverage (CP) from 35 to 99 watts?

Last time I was in Jersey last year, I barely heard The Bridge on 103.1 from the Parking Lot of the Star Tavern in Orange NJ, with a weak signal. Signal strength should have improved in that area if they upgraded their power.

Shouldn't they be getting their programming directly from WRDR instead of W236CH ?
I know 89.7 from Freehold doesnt reach that far north but it is listed as their parent station. Way back when 103.1 used to have WJUX (99.7) as their parent when it was "Jukebox Radio" before it became "The Bridge."

The parent for most of their translators is WPLJ-HD4.

I can get WAYV and WZZO with my outdoor antenna, day and night. In the car it's a mix of the two.
I've heard at some point along the Atlantic City Expressway, you lose the philly FMs.
WZXL requires Tropo to get and usually its mixing with WLEV.
I wonder if WAYV will keep Mike and Diann and if WZXL will keep Jojo and Scotty?
I hope so.
