Equity Communications

Why is it that 105.5 WAIV / 102.3 WGBZ are always off the air. They simulcast 95.1 WAYV / 99.3 WZBZ. Seems as if they are forgotten most of the time. Maybe they should just drop them or sell them off.

99.3 WZBZ is still not broadcasting at normal watts. Station gets static/fades out in parts of Atlantic City and quickly going west on Expressway.

WAYV and WZBZ also dropped both afternoon DJs it seems. Phil Rossi on 95.1 and Kayla Austin on 99.3 are not on as of now. They are both dropped from the stations websites as of this morning.

What’s going on with Equity?

It seems the first sign of changes were abandoning the Soft AC on WEZW in favor of a WMID simulcast. The reasons certainly weren't for "coverage" since 1340/1230 are clear across the 93.1 listening area and with the demos that WMID appeals to, it doesn't really seem that migrating to FM was a necessity but rather a cost-cutting measure. As far as the coverage of WZBZ, there is still no STA if they are operating out of spec and so that does raise a brow as to why one hasn't been filed months after a variance of coverage was detected. While its always interesting to speculate what might be going on, abandoning talent (presumably voicetracked) on 2 stations in their group is indicative in and of itself of something financial. Now that its the off-season for shore communities, do their stop-sets appear to be healthy?

An AllAccess article from 9/18 pointed to the DJs leaving "at the end of the month." So it wasn't 100% unexpected, but it does seem like a cost-cutting measure. Besides the morning show, is anyone else left in the building?

It always comes down to money. Equity does not have a lot of big bucks to throw around. There's not a lot of money to be made in the location they're broadcasting to.

99.3 The Buzz got struck by lightning 4th of July weekend.
105.5 has been off the air occasionally
I don’t recall 102.3 The Buzz ever being off this summer.

I visited Atlantic City 10 days ago and got to hear several Equity stations off the air. 93.1 was completely off. 102.3 and 105.5 had dead air, and so did 1230.
At this point, it’s almost like Equity doesn’t care about their Cape May county stations in the off-season.
