Equity Media Sells RTN to Ease Crunch

"The company will use $17.5 million of proceeds to pay off a credit facility, the company said. A $38.5 million senior secured credit facility will still be outstanding after the transactions..."

Forget Luken, they should be doing business with Dave Ramsey!

Equity Media Holdings concludes $18.5 million sale of Retro Television Network to insider Luken Communications, headed by Equity's largest shareholder.

First, they buy a group of low-power stations in the Fort Myers/Naples market...now this?

Could we see RTN in the above-mentioned market soon?

...hell, can we see it in Phoenix anytime soon? KAZT/7.2 simply repeats 7.1, although RTN was promised to us months back...

I seem to remember Michael Hagarty saying a month or so ago that RTN would air sometime in the August 2008 timeframe.

Michael, any update???

Does a station even need RTN? I mean WCIU started ME-TV which carries most of the shows RTN does, and now WCIU has not only ME-TV but MeToo to carry the old reruns.

Is it that expensive to get these old shows? Or are they barter or what?

Each station can go to CBS, NBC Universal, etc. and buy the rights to each of the shows RTN airs, just like the Weigel group/Me-TV and KDOC-TV in L.A. does. I think that RTN is ideal for stations who don't want to invest in extra server equipment or don't have the room to store all the tapes which the classic programs come on. They just plug in a feed from Little Rock and they're off and running. I would have expected a consortium of the station groups that carry many RTN subchannels (Cox, Media General, etc.) would purchase the network, but I guess I was wrong.

As for KAZT, maybe it's best to ask that question on the Phoenix board. Let Mr. Hagerty know there is still interest for the network.

I thought I read that the launch of RTN on KAZT is largely dependent on getting Cox cable to carry them. It shouldn't be too hard since the new GM came from Cox, but who knows what's going on. I know that Qwest has an open slot, but Cox is where the viewers are.
