Eres Tu KRTH

Just heard "Eres Tu" by Mocedades on KRTH 101...WOW! Have not heard that one on since the mid 80's, when their playlist was wide open. It's a 70's Sampler Weekend....another themed weekend by Kaye!

No offense, but I know people who've worked for him and he gets a lot of his ideas from his staff as well. Lets pat them all on the back.
As fore the music, take a look at the Whitburn book, there are hundreds of songs that can be peppered in for flavor and if he does it right he's got material for years to come. "Eres Tu" could be just the beginning

Wow indeed! That song does not even test on the Spanish classic hits stations any more. Did you hear the Spanish version, or "Touch the Wind?"

"Eres Tu..Touch the Wind"....Hope KRTH keeps widening their playlist!! And keep those specialty weekends coming.

On the 45 single, isn't the Spanish version on the flip side?? Or was it the English version? :) Also I seem to recall one side was in mono and the other in stereo.

The hit was in Spanish, regardless of the meaningless addition of "Touch The Wind" to the title. They slapped "Touch The Wind" on there just to make it more accessable to programmers back in the day.

No, there was an English version.

Goddamn he's brilliant. Oh boy a stiff from the mid 70's. Nice summer book Johnny. Also biog advice: don't hire your boy friends.

Whatever you may think to the contrary, Jhani is a very good programmer and has proven it by doing one of the harder things in radio, which was keeping KOST at the top for so many, many years.

I notice that in successive posts, you have dissed Hispanic formats and gays. What is next on the "Destroy my Cred" list for today for ya'?

Eres Tu was a pretty big local hit in quite a few markets... all three CHRs in Phoenix played it, and it was multiple platinum in about 50 countries in the world.

More than just a big local hit. It was a Top Ten record. Also got T40 airplay in NYC, LA and Chicago.

"Eres Tu" peaked at #9 on the Hot 100 Billboard Chart in March of 1974. I believe it may have been a number 2 hit on KHJ in Los Angeles during '74.

You are correct, Eres Tu peaked at #2 on the KHJ survey. It was a #8 on the Billboard AC chart, so I imagine KMPC and KIIS played it a bunch.

Only got to #8 at WABC. In Chicago, it was a #5 at WLS and #4 at WCFL.

Although there was indeed an English-language version
it was the Spanish version that most stations played and ended up being the hit single.

What comes to mind is the scene from Tommy Boy with David Spade and Chris Farley, when they're driving down the road, and this song comes on.

I worked at an oldies station that played "Eres Tu" on occasion (theme weekends) and made sure to play the liner "Songs You Can Sing Along With" going into it. :)

I heard that too. It sure was a "flashback moment!" To be more specific, I flashed on how much I used to hate that song (since I was working middays on an A/C station at the time and hated every spin 'cause I'd rather have been playing Deep Purple). ;D

That said, songs like that can be a shrewd programming move. They have a "wow" factor that can't be duplicated. That's why you pull them out only on special occasions, then put them back in storage (kind of like the Christmas china your aunt gave you for your first wedding anniversary - but I digress).
