Eric Braeden (Young & the Restless) out after breakdown in contract negotiations

Re: Eric Braeden (Young & the Restless) out after breakdown in contract negotiations

Seems strange that Sony would nix his offer to work
for less money. But then again, the soaps aren't getting
the license fees they used to, with audiences steadily
declining.

I looked at the website you mentioned, and there are
a lot of unhappy campers, some of whom are saying
they won't watch Y&R after November 2, Braeden's last
day. (It sounds like people who swore they'd never watch
CBS after GL's last episode.) A few people even suggested
that, with All My Children moving its home base to LA, the
producers of that show hire him and team him with Susan
Lucci. Any thoughts?

Re: Eric Braeden (Young & the Restless) out after breakdown in contract negotiations

Lucci took a pay cut too...do those folks think AMC suddenly has more money to throw around for one hire?

Does anyone know if ABC will be doing the same thing with "One Life to Live"?

It just wouldn't make any sense for "OLTL" to be the only soap based in New York once Procter and Gamble finally pulls the plug on "As the World Turns".

Re: Eric Braeden (Young & the Restless) out after breakdown in contract negotiations

So far ABC has said OLTL stays in NY, taking over the AMC space.

Not just All My Children, but Days Of Our Lives or General Hospital? What about The Bold and the Beautiful? Or would Eric Braeden be willing to move East to test the waters there? I'm sure any show would love to have viewers check out their show to see "Victor Newman."

Even though Braeden could(?) command a big salary, I think a short-term storyline might help out any soap.

I think those folks are speaking more from emotion than logic. Sure, it
would probably be a good thing for AMC or any other soap to land Braeden,
but all the soaps have had their license fees cut, which means budget cuts,
and I wonder if any could meet his price, whatever that is.

Re: Eric Braeden (Young & the Restless) out after breakdown in contract negotiations

Their best possibility is if someone of Lucci's stature leaves (and her interviews hint that she's not keen on permanently living in LA, but will go for the time being).

Even though I've never express it that way, I 100% agree that every person/character on every TV show is someones favorite and would be the reason why they would stop watching if that person/character left. I remember reading several years ago that Doug Davidson who plays Paul was the most liked person in TV and had a high "Q" rating.
He was the reason I started watching.

If they kill Victor that sure will be a blow to the show. He wasn't a character I liked, but he sure defines the show.

From what I read, they're not killing him, just writing him out...saves the effort of trying to invent yet another "here's how I didn't really die" storyline if cooler heads eventually prevail.

That's what I figure too.

I only read Nancy Reichardt. I never watch the show any more.

Re: Eric Braeden (Young & the Restless) out after breakdown in contract negotiations

On Thursday 29 October, Y&R showed some classic Victor Newman clips. As Victor recorded a video for his infant daughter Faith, there were some flashback that included Katherine (to me looks better now than back then), Ashley, Hope, Col. Austin, Jack and of course Nikki. Victoria, Nicholas, Adam and Abby were shown as infants/kids. At the time, it was assumed that Eric Braeden might never come back. I always enjoy watching scenes like these.

Col. Austin? Oh, wow, I haven't thought of him in years. Such a nice man.
