Eric Burch - WASK

Just to keep things straight....the author of this thread, Jim Walsh, is not me...the
founder of WITT FM and a broadcaster in Indiana and elsewhere since 1964.

I understand that Eric is now working as Communications Director (read it: chief PR guy) for the Indiana Office of Energy & Defense Development. It's once of those offices in one of the office buildings on Ohio Street near the Statehouse. Nice work, if you can get it...and have some political connections somewhere. Never met him...but heard plenty about him.

I understand Eric was the best news anchor on the WASK stations within the past five or six years.

WASK and K-105 used to have the best radio news team outside the big Indiana cities for decades. The staff list included people like Mike Piggott, Chris Morrisse, Wally Hubbard, Dave Dahl and Max Showalter. Yeah, I'll even include myself on the list (having worked there twice in my lifetime). Piggott and Showalter were the best Lafayette newsroom managers in WASK history. Mike managed to bring an Edward R. Murrow award home to Lafayette radio and Max continued the tradition. Chris Morrisee and Wally Hubbard joined Mike at TV-18, and Chris has been News Director there for years. Max has been a reporter-writer for the Journal and Courier for years. Dave's been a radio news director in Illinois for years. So, I guess there wasn't much radio news experience left in town when they all moved on.

Thanks, Jim - the feeling is mutual. :D

Never met me, Chris? ohhhh...I am hurt. We met a couple of times, and talked on the phone a few. But your assessment of my current employment is correct, with one exception: No political connections. and um....Max and/or Mike were not the only ones to bring a Murrow home. :)

Time didn't stop in 1986, either...as some other fine broadcast journalists made their way through WASK and K105. Wayne Pratt and Mark Webber come to mind.
