Eric Deters exposes WLW's fake callers

Below is a paragraph from Eric Deters blog about WLW and their fake callers. I wonder what WLW thinks of Deters comments? Just reading his blog about WLW shows he either has issues or has a huge ax to grind with the radio station.

Who wants boring radio? No one. It’s about entertainment. But why do it by insulting the listeners or abusing the listeners? Willie states things all the time you and I know are not true. The women he’s dating? It’s funny. Why do talk show hosts need fake callers? I couldn’t stand it. Nick from Loveland is a fake caller. He’s funny. He’s fake. Who else is fake? Richard from Indian Hill. Fake. Rodney from Norwood. Do you think he’s real? The women who call in on Sloanie and Tracie’s show complaining about things? They have a female caller that plays more than one role. Tip: ridiculous caller. Fake. The tornado damage stealer. Fake.

The biggest thing you took from Eric's rant is the confirmation on the fake callers? I hope you are kidding. ::)

Love him or hate him, there's likely a lot of truth there. After awhile, depending on the subject, Doc Thompson begins to sound like uniblab, especially when doing an interview. Marc Amazon looks at a phone with unlit lines and nervously prattles on, or has to settle for callers from Darwin's Waiting Room. He also believes that "Applebee's" and "Chili's" are "good restaurants"...

One of Darryl's coaching tips must be to "appeal to the typical Wal-Mart shopper"

Hello, bridges burned.

It's no surprise that Clear Channel uses fake callers. This is hardly any revelation as it was covered in the news some time ago.

There's two sides to every story, and it's doubtful we will ever truthfully hear WLW's side on the release of The Shouter.

They don't call it The Big One for nothing. That place is full of people who think they are bigger than they really are.

What a ridiculous and sophomoric rant from a loudmouth blowhard. And his tell all bits of personal comments by some WLW folks about their fellow staffers are a cheap shot. The previous comment about his illiteracy is something I've long wondered about myself. Check his last paragraph as one of many examples....."If I would have went quietly...." If I would have WENT? How do people like this get on the air? Unfortunately, I hear this kind of poor grammar on the air all too frequently anymore.

I'm sure management at WLW are no angels, but Deters is acting like a child, not the tough bulldog he's attempting to portray. WQRT, with its growing bastion of WLW castoffs, is starting to impress me less and less.

WLW has the BEST news department in the country. For being an AM radio station in 2011 and #1,
they are doing something right. All these corporate cuts, if you want to blame somebody, blame
the FCC, they let it go on and don't demand live 24/7 staffs. If they did, the big groups would have to do it.

WQRT Isn't trying to impress you. I doubt you're who they are trying to program to.

it`s not the fault of the FCC decision(not that it was a good one) for the cuts.the FCC did not put a gun to the corporations and say cut your air staff.the responsibility falls on the corporations.

WLW has the BEST news department in the country. When I read this, I thought it was an April Fools joke. Apparently, you've never listened to WTOP in Washington, DC. WINS in New York, WBBM in Chicago, KRLD, in Dallas, WSB in Atlanta, KFI in Los Angeles.

I could add to this list.

WLW had the best news department. Now it's rip and read and an occasional live traffic update. CC has watered the news dept down in it's smaller markets and uses WLW as a reporting hub for several cities without a live news department.

WLW back in the day had a very good news department. Still never as good as WTOP, WINS, KRLD or WSB. But pretty good

In about five years, that station will have about 5 news people.

I can not speak on "Richard from Indian Hill" or "Nick from Loveland"...but believe it or not, "Rod from Norwood" is real...I have met him and his son, Junior at a few Reds games...now, whether what "Rod" spews during his phone calls is real or "coached" I do not know...

WLW has the best news in the country? Obviously, you've never been to Philadelphia (KYW), Dall\as (KRLD, WBAP), Los Angeles (KNX), Detroit (WJR, WWJ), New York (WCBS, WINS, WABC), Boston (WBZ), Cleveland (WTAM), Tampa (WFLA), Wichita (KFDI), St Louis (KMOX, KTRS), Tulsa (KFAQ, KRMG), Milwaukee (WTMJ), Chicago (WGN, WLS, WBBM), Atlanta (WSB), Dayton (WHIO), Orlando (WDBO, WTKS), Pittsburgh (KDKA), San Francisco (KCBS, KGO), Seattle (KIRO), Salt Lake City (KSL), Washington (WTOP), Rochester (WHAM), Buffalo (WBEN), Denver (KOA) or Toronto (CFRB, CFTR). Every one makes Semmin hunnert Dubya Buya sound like the bush league it is. they've always done a great job of IMAGING the news...but the actual content is a poor excuse for actual broadcasting.

I know some of the folks at WJR and WWJ. They are among the finest in the business. WLW's news product isn't bad but does not compare.
