Eric Deters

I was listening to 700 WLW on XM last night in Charleston, SC, and Eric Deters was filling in for Scott Sloan, who was off.

Eric is ok, but he does the same topics every time he is on. He always does a "Cincinnati Rat Pack" of people he wants to meet with, like the news anchors on 5 and 12.

He also likes to talk about the economy, and says he has gotten offers in many different places.

What do you think about Eric Deters?

I would certainly choose Eric over Sloan anytime.

I think he knows how to stay on topic and actually provide information. Kind of like Willie before he goes into shill mode. Willie can be great at explaining both sides of arguments, but when he becomes a huckster for anything Republican he's just diluting his legacy.

I hope Eric finds his own voice. I think he's got great potential and could already replace a few of WLW's hosts.

Eric needs to stay away from pseudo laughter and lower his voice to a natural and pleasant level in my opinion.

Last night his topic at one point was "super hero's". Callers were voting for their favorite super hero and the answers varied (Cunningham to Sponge Bob) from the sincere to the caller looking for a laugh. Eric placated the callers by laughing but his laughter was forced. It was obvious that he was trying to extract or generate excitement and interest (which is understandable) but the content was of little substance and did not lend itself well to the task.

Scott has been filling in for Mike McConnell who is on vacation. No matter what time of the day Sloan is on, he sucks.

Lower his voice to a natural and pleasant level??? For some reason two things come to mind. 1) Pig vomit teaching Howard Stern the call letters in Private Parts (which a former PD of mine did to one of the jocks at the time) 2) the public radio skit on SNL where everyone talks in a low "calm" voice.

Bottom line in radio is be informative, entertaining, and interactive, Deters does a decent job at those three, though works best when he can feed off of Willie.

Ah yes....w-Nnnnn-bc!

I do agree Titoisradio that radio should indeed be about content and excitement (depending on the application or format). At 11:30 PM at night though I'd prefer the accent to be placed on content...but that's just me I suppose.
