Eric Slocum On Metro Traffic

I was surprised to hear former KOMO TV anchor, former KOMO radio news anchor doing traffic this Saturday afternoon doing traffic reports on Metro for KOMO. Now, if I understand correctly, he was fired walked away from KOMO Radio to write a book or something about a year ago...and now he's back on the air with Metro. Interesting, no?

Maybe Mr. Slocum just does it for the FUN of being behind a mic. Wouldn't be the first time...

Metro Traffic = "fun"? :D

Working for Gina is a hoot. She's one of the best in the biz...but Jackson, you gotta admit that Metro's pay-scale, hours and pressure are not the best hobby to take-up. Head over to KBCS if you want to work a mic and have "fun", not Columbia Tower!

But enough of our speculation:

If he cares to comment , let's ask Eric whassup since he graced us with a well thought out departure message from Fisher. Eric, are you looking to stay active on the airwaves (radio or TV?)

I know I seldom chime in, but since I see my name in the SUBJECT line, I cannot resist.

I'm one of those broadcasters who will still be "barking" into a microphone when I'm 94 years old (God willing). I LOVE BROADCASTING. Metro was kind enough to give me this opportunity to do part-time and fill-in work while I continue to sell my narrative non-fiction project. I'm also working on a series of videos for a Seattle educational client.

A little background on my LOVE of traffic reporting. I grew up in Dallas listening to KLIF radio back in the Top 40 hey-day. There was a traffic reporter on the morning show there who was a HERO. (Dallas traffic is the pits-- even back in 1974) I used to listen to KLIF just to hear the traffic news with my favorite reporter and fantasize that "one day I'll do that."

For years at KOMO, I confided in Lisa Brooks that if I ever left KOMO (which I did, by my choice, to write my project) I would try to work part-time in the traffic world. Thankfully, the great management at Metro was kind enough to take me on part time. It satisfies my total addiction to broadcasting and my DREAM to be a traffic reporter. IT'S A BLAST!! And the people at Metro are a nice group. I've never had such great on the job training!!!

Eric,

Way to go for it and please keep us in the loop on your writing project as well.
Meantime, it's good to have your voice on the airwaves again!

Yes!

Eric, I watched you in Oklahoma City in the mid-80's. Then I moved to Seattle, and you seemed to have followed me!

Writing is a noble deed, but broadcasting gets in your blood. Here's here to you!
