Eric WHO??? :D

I haven't paid attention to their sports department since Gary Cruz left!

I think he's the guy who looks kinda like Kurt Warner. Beyond that, he's a decent anchor, but a bit generic. Maybe he can buy time from Gumpdusky - they need a morning show on KDUS starting in a couple of weeks.

Besides, a local sports anchor is unnecessary these days, except at 10 PM when the local teams are done (or almost done) playing and highlights and commentary might be welcome. For sports in the early evening, ESPN and Fox Sports Net will tell you everything you want to know. Don't have cable? Check the websites/apps. Don't have a computer or smartphone? This is 2011. Get one.

Yep - that's him. Solid, but really low-key. Not even close to the personality and energy that Gary Cruz brought to the set, or that sportscasters on the other local stations bring.

Found it strange that KPHO brought on Joe Pequeno (formerly with KPNX 12) to expand their sports team only to let one of the anchors (and sports director) go a few weeks later.

But then again, this is KPHO the place with FOUR weather personalities on staff that occasionally has to call in a reserve guesser to cover the noon news.

Now, we know why Joe Pequeno was "brought in"! Just like we now know why Kaley was "brought in" over at 3TV! Sadly, all these changes don't seem to translate to better coverage of local news, sports, and weather.

Just an update. Was curious and thanks to the internet did some searching on the status of Eric Sperling. He can be found at the following links. He has created company called SPXProductionsAZ's.

http://twitter.com/#!/ericsperlingspx

http://spxproductions.com/spx-tv

http://www.youtube.com/user/SPXProductionsAZ/videos

If none of these links work just search for yourself on your preferred search engine.

Not sure what to make of it, really interesting to see Kent Dana again. The message on the website is about getting news in a new way. I wonder how this is working for him.
