ERICA ON THE BEACH

A

Guest
From All Access Erica Kay formerly of FUN107 and Q105 has left WZNS Ft Walton Beach where she was morning co host. Will she land elsewhere locally?

I've always thought Erica was one of the best personalities in this area. As a Fun 107 weekender she was head over heels better than many full timers even in Providence and I think she was ready for Boston long ago. It's all a matter of timing.

And Skynet who the hell do you think you are spying on people? You actually keep track of conversations on myspace pages that have nothing to do with you? Whether you're wrong or right is besides the point. I hope everyone you know or think you know owns paper shredders.

Skynet, you are nuts...the link you posted was from someone in the field asking if i knew anything about Lubbock, Texas because THEY were going to apply for a job there.

I don't think it's NUTS at all for me to look at your friends saying that Lubbock Texas overlooked YOU. But anyway..... since you are here why don't you address the original poster.

I left Fun 107, which was tough seeing I had two great years there. It is truly a one of a kind station and the staff there went out of their way to recognize and include weekenders. However, I was 31 and had always just done part-time. I had a full-time job running residence halls a few different colleges, which allowed me the opportunity to gain supervisory skills. The higher education field was also great because it promoted professional development. However, when you find yourself hitting the snooze button 5 times and not wanting to go to work it gets tiresome. I wasn't happy leaving the radio station on Saturdays thinking "I can't wait until next Saturday". I wanted to look forward to going to work every day. I even took a week's vacation every so often at my primary job when Kevin Palana would call me and ask if i could fill in for a week at Q105. I knew that I had to get at least a year of full-time experience at a small market. It was tough loading up a UHaul, leaving all of my friends and family and moving myself over a thousand miles away. If I had to do it again, I would. However, I would like to return to New England to work if possible, or to a larger market anywhere here in the U.S.

Well I wish you well. I always thought you were good on the Radio and I still feel that way. So I wish you much success wherever your career path takes you.

Listen... it's a public page and freely accessable to everybody. Erica knows that. Otherwise she would have put her page on private. Same goes for people with blogs. It's common knowledge that you don't post things online that you wish to remain private. Don't get mad at me just because I'm good at looking things up. People do the same thing to me. That is just the nature of the internet.

Good luck finding a gig Erica! There's not much out there at the moment... but don't give up.

Oh you're not really good at looking things up. You're just more prone to it than most people less obsessed with other peoples' lives. Now for instance if I go to voice123.com and narrow the search down to RI I come up with Amy Hagan, Mike Rovin, and Sam Stevens who are all radio people. If on the other hand I search by your name http://voice123.com/johnchartier I do come up with you but it doesn't look like you're active. You've made your name clear here before so I know you won't mind this. So are you on voice456 or what?

Guess what? If it's on the internet you are free to look whatever you want up. Look my information up all night long. Why should I care. That's your choice. Have fun!

John----the answer to the thread's question was answered. Let's move on. It always ends up in a cluster when you do your private investigating

Ladies, ladies, PLEASE!! Save your squabbles for UptightRadioJocks.org...

Erica, you are a GREAT talent and you will land on your feet... ;D

Just to clarify....Erica is not currently on the beach....she is cowered in the bathtub with tornados in the hood! She will return to the beach tomorrow probably; but may be set to take off again w/ Hanna calling!

yes,,,mom was VERY upset that I didn't take it seriously when evacuation orders were given seriously. I was not leaving..or going to hide in my closet or baththub...we had a few tornados hit but I missed out..Ted, you and I had extensive chats about this--back in New England, if there was a big storm hitting, the local anchors MAY break in with an update..but down here in the gulf, EVERYDAY there are severe warnings..flood watches...tornado watches/warnings, etc..i'm all for notifying the public...however, it seems to invade the television screen here...i'm not used to the emergency broadcast system busting in on my show a few times a week..it's a good thing to keep the public aware, but it also desensitizes peoples' reaction when there is a bad storm. that Emergency Alert System busts into shows ALL THE TIME down here.. Probably just a regional thing where the Gulf is just prone to bad hurricane patterns, but it gives me a whole new perspective on "crap, i gotta pay attention to my show outside the new New Kids Song and give coordinates on a storm? when that happens, i gave up my voicetracked shows and went in and did it live..you CAN'T in your heart know that your show is voicetracked, and that the EAS is going to interrupt your show to give tornado warnings...no, you don't get paid extra, but a VT show is not ideal for listeners wanting up to the minute weather updates

You're one of the good ones. The ones that will save our industry. Don't give up, the struggle gets tougher from here.

Erica have you checked into the job opening for the Coast co-host gig?The ad dates back over a month so I don't know if it's been filled and I haven't listened in a couple of weeks so I don't know if it's still a one person show.
