Erick Erickson?

Who IS this clown filling in for BOORTZ?

He makes me wish for the long lost days of Herman Cain.

The guy is about as entertaining and engaging as last week's lettuce.

Help me understand why White Columns executives, with a ton of people to choose from, chose THIS guy?

I listened this morning and it was all I could to leave the radio ON, let alone turn it off--nothing to do with his political thoughts; I don't care either way---but his ability to hold an audience? Forgetabboudit! Could be the worst I've ever heard.

I mean, C'MON!!

Ironic.
::)
It was Erickson that said of Olbermann (quoting ESPN) on CNN: "The amount of damage he'd do in a day would take years to undo..."

Did Neal pick this guy?

Well, two trains of thought on this. Boortz has said himself, if you are the best at what you do (or at least think you are), you don't get somebody GOOD to stand in for you. You get somebody mediocre or 'adequate' and let people rediscover how good you actually are.

In other words, you get the C-team to stand in.

The other train of thought is that Boortz may not have had a lot of say in it. Cox clearly wants to bet a lot on Erik and wants national exposure. Is he ready for that? Probably not, but by finding out where something lacks, you also find out where you need to focus more work. Shrug. I'll give him some slack.

Amusing that Erik shed his political ambition for WSB at the same time Herman shed WSB to chase his political ambition. One of these men is hungry for radio. I for one like that. If you don't hunger for it, get out of the way and let someone else who is hungry have a shot. That's my view.

Cox made an early bet on Erickson. He's from Macon, GA (coincidentally where Krok ended up before Dallas). He made a name for himself with redstate.com and CNN appearances. Obviously HC's departure expedited the need for a fill in, so Cox let their new guy take the role. Erickson is their only second stringer right now. They could hire someone like Mike Huckabee to fill in. They could even use someone like Doug Kellett to fill in. But you made a good point...

Well Erick Erickson's got name recognition to some extent, but no radio experience. A decade ago, they would have let him spend more time getting comfortable on the air. Erickson's still got that mentality that you have to change how you enunciate when you have a microphone in front of you. He's got a sort of sing-songy cadence, similar to Ilyce Glink.

With Eric you at least get the truth that some parts of Conservative talk radio is really driven by the GOP “Red State”. I believe there is a fine line between “entertainment” and partisan politics. I hope Eric is not the “poster child” for the revival of the fairness rules. In the last six years the political winds have shifted back and forth. If talk radio becomes a “burden” to the established GOP with the Tea Party people wanting power and cutting some of Big Business’s Tax subsidies you might see the “established” or RHINOS as some Tea Baggers call them, siding with the Democrats and fairness rules come back killing Talk Radio.

Interesting, Erick recently stepped down from the Macon City Council to concentrate on his WSB local show.

I guess he now has something to do with his free time in the event Boortz is away.
