Can anyone help me I.D these stations. The first I noticed was on 96.5 playing Active-Modern Rock but barely perceivable,,, Possibly 96.5 The Buzz in Kansas City,,,, My second catch was on 99.7 where I got a station I.D as Giant 99, but couldnt make out the city of license,,, I tried typing in Giant 99 on Google but came up with nothing,,, If someone could verify where this Giant 99 is coming from that would give me some idea of what I was hearing on 96.5 as well. THANKS....

I thought the Cinci station was still country.... If they have switched to Rock than it is very very possible thats what it was... The old Country station was a regular Catch here, plus I did here WEBN 102.7 from Cinci earlier in the day, so it makes sense...... However... Later yesterday evening I did get a positive station I.D from Power 96 WPOW Ft Lauderdale-Miami, thats about 1400 miles or more.

If I recall, you're in Martinsville. My Mapsource software shows Miami Airport (south of the tower farms) at 996 miles. That places WPOW closer to 980 miles...still a very respectable distance. Over here in Edinburgh, I had WGLM 106.7 West Lafayette,IN (98 miles) this morning with WTLC/Greenwood (29 miles) in the same direction on the same channel. With the Bolin phaser & 2 yagis, I can usually drop WTLC to where it doesn't move the meter, but ground wave has to be up for WGLM to be there. That was at 9AM....long gone by 11AM. If ya don't like translators, this phaser will make all but the closest ones go away. I'm 4 miles from a K-LOVE translator on 102.1 (visible from the kitchen window) and WDNL/Danville,IL is there at 11:35AM on the same channel. Of course, it has to over-ride WKLU's IBOC hiss on 102.1, but that's another story.

Thanks Bob,,, I heard Power 96 yesterday evening right when the rain started, I tried to see if I could pick up any other Florida stations, but no luck... Anyway, Bob your right, I do live in Martinsville, which is a pretty good DX spot cause we are in a valley just far enough from indy to be able to Knawl out most the stations. But I live on a Ridge where Dxing Saint Louis is very common, in fact the Saint Louis catches are so common I dont even get excited when I hear them anymore. I have 107.7 as a open freq here, and during the summer, usually early morning I can pick up Z-1077 KSLZ almost every morning during the summer, and in the fall between Thanksgiving and Christmas I can usually regularly catch it. One time back in 1993 when Saint Louis got flooded I could pick up all the full power Saint Louis stations in Martinsville as clear as a bell for about 3 to 5 days nonstop.... Can you DX any Saint Louis stations in Edinburg, your only slightly farther away, but I would guess on 107.7 you probably usually here Louisville.

Hi Mid West ..... Dunno if this helps, but there is a Variety 99.7 here in NEPA, which was bought by Clear Channel to augment the ratings of their Williamsport 'Variety' station on the adjacent frequenct. No doubt your ears are better than mine, but 'variety' and 'giant' can be sonically confusing to some.

And I don't know if paralleling webstreams is considered 'cheating' in the DX hobby, or if someone enmeshed in the frenzy of trope or eSkip has the time, but The Buzz streams. We used to // ..... parallel ..... short wave stations to see if what we were hearing on the AM band from Europe could be considered a catch, so I don;t think it's a huge ethical breach to do so via computer.

Jason Ulanet does middays at The Buzz, by the way. Jason U was a frequent poster -- and a good one -- on Allan Sniffen's New York Radio Message Board back when Jason did middays at WJSE Atlantic City.

While I think of it, is WFXW 38 weak there? I get WTHI DT 10 (on 24) about 70-80%, but WFXW is getting to be a rare catch here. St Louis...most of those freqs are occupied by Indy stations, but with the phaser box, it's not uncommon to dump WFBQ and hear KSHE. 96.3 was once easy, but living halfway between two 96.3 class A's, canceling one out just exposes the other. 96.3 was a fine frequency in it's day. I'm at 830' above sea level & even with one of my yagi's at 110', the Martinsville ridge is something I can't see over. So to asnwer your question, St Louis is not a daily event here. My farthest station that I can reliably get is 101.1, WSGS, Hazard,KY, not far from VA. Killer signal. Before 104.3 got clogged up, WBBQ, Augusta,GA would fade in every 10-15 mins on most days. WIVK 107.7 Knoxville was pretty regular as well, but Louisville has killed that. Another regular from back in the day was WJFM 93.7 Grand Rapids. These are probably not current calls. Going way back when i started DXing around 1970, I lived in Cincinnati and Grundy,VA 3000 watts on 97.7 wasn't uncommon. My best direction is south. With the phaser, getting WCBK to go away & getting Louisville is pretty easy. But my best phaser trick is getting rid of Franklin on 95.9 at 12 miles & hearing the WTTS translator on that channel at 35-37 miles. I also can hear the 103.1 translator in Bloomington here. That required the phaser until WXCH went away. Do you remember the mid 80's opening that lasted for days (it was on Thanksgiving Day weekend I believe)? Nothing from Indy was audible on an FM car radio in Martinsville...it was all creamed by DX. Cable companies were flooded with complaints...if they were very far outside of Marion County, they couldn't get 6, 8 or 13. Just a battle ground of DX with nobody coming out on top...definitely the strongest opening I've seen to date.
