Speaking of which, I've noticed hispanic programming of late on the WAMB FM frequency.

kr0nic: I was waiting for someone to notice that on 99.3 (it could be a topic on its own I'm sure). It appears to me that the Donelson translator of WAMB on 99.3 is running WAMB's programming during the daytime hours, and switching to a feed of 810 WMGC ("La Sabrosita") at night. This has been going on for a few weeks now.
After reading about the above on this thread, I decided to listen in, and check it out. It seems that WAMB-AM is itself apparently going all hispanic after 6:00 p.m. Now whether or not they are receiving a feed from "La Sabrosita," I don't know. I will let the rest of you check that one out for us. At any rate (via simulcasting), this represents the first significant venture into FM broadcasting in Nashville by a hispanic broadcaster, that I am aware of, anyway.
I have been listening to the above-referenced hispanic broadcast over 1200 AM/99.3 FM, and it appears to me that it is NOT a simulcast of "La Sabrosita," because I listened to them as well, and heard different programming. It appears that WAMB is joining this hispanic feed in progress right after 6:00 p.m., and leaving it at 6:00 a.m.

actually today was tropo...e-skips are usually in the 1000+ mile range and fairly short duration. usually.
this morning a nice duct from Paducah amd Cape Girardeau:
94.7 was a 50-50 battle between Mayfield and Cookeville...93.3 WKYQ was strong...
and 98.7 WHOP was like a local...something on virtually every frequency.
I get them on a regular basis anyway, and I am just west of Nashville.
Fascinating find! They have a pretty good signal up here in West KY to boot! Anyone been able to capture 106.5 WKDZ by chance?
WHOP is in "Hoptown," hence the name. Where are you? I am assuming (by the call letters) that WKDZ is shorthand for "Cadiz," so receiving a signal from Hopkinsville should be no problem for you, especially if I can receive it here.

Yes, I know where WHOP is. Both WHOP-FM and AM. WKDZ is in fact in Cadiz, but serves Hopkinsville and Clarksville. I live in Murray, KY though and can get all of the above easily. I was just throwing it out there about the quality of their signal despite the realitvely short tower (for a 100kw station) they broadcast from. Not to mention the tower itself is north of Hopkinsville.

I was told that WHOP-FM got a power increase a year or so ago. I had previously assumed that the reason why I was able to pick them up better was because Bott had vacated the 98.7 dial position here in Nashville, and moved up to 103.9. WAMB had had that dial position (98.7) before that. Also worth noting that WRFN-LP had moved from 98.9 to 107.1. I'm assuming that WANT in Lebanon is still on 98.9, but their signal is too weak (and too far away) for me to receive them.

They've been 100kw for as long as I can remember, BUT, they changed towers. They used to broadcast from their old tower which is in the upper 300-lower 400 foot range. It was old and really short for a station with that kind of power. They are 95% Dial Global as well. Morning show is the only local originating program (which is really a shame for a market that size). Forcht Broadcasting owns them now and they're based out of Corbin, KY.

Morning show is about the only time that I can't listen to them! Sorry, guys, too much yak yak, and (almost) NO music during that time! ::)

I was able to pick up WKDZ from here at home, but I couldn't listen long because I don't really care for country music. The signal was good, but I couldn't get it once I was in town. No real surprise there. Things must have changed since I lived in Clarksville back in the early '90s because I don't remember 'KDZ being a player in the Clarksville radio scene at all.

just checked 12+ numbers (on another un-named site)
WKDZ has gone 3.3 - 2.0 - 2.7 - 2.6 the last four books in Clarksville"Hopkinsville

The big difference in it is that The Beaver is almost 100% voicetracked while WKDZ is live all day long (minus the evenings and overnight). Plus, the station won Small Market Station of the Year and a Marconi for community involvement. They haven't skimped on being local there! The market is no longer rated because nobody buys Eastland or Arbitron, so finding out where they are at post-2009 is somewhat hard. If I had to guess it would be around a 3 share, maybe higher or lower.
