ESPN 1000 should be embarrassed

The historic day in Chicago baseball/sports history, ESPN 1000 totally dropped the ball.

Post game coverage ended in the 1 AM hour for national ESPN radio.

Meanwhile, WSCR decided to drop Sporting News overnight coverage to go literally all night in covering the Sox first trip to the World Series since 1959!

WSCR should get kudos for doing that. The callers bringing in family connections to how meaningful this World Series berth was to them was some excellent sports talk radio. In fact some of the best sports talk I probably have ever heard.

This may be the one time where ESPN 1000 is at a major loss due to not as many local shows. WSCR surely had them beat last night. Comments?

You Cubs fans really should just shut your traps right now, and be embarresed that the Sox got there and you didn't.

YESSSS! BRIAN!!! The Score was great last night. Lawrence, Jesse and John were great, and the Score will be awesome throught the WORLD SERIES!! I hope Cagelosi sticks around 670!

GO SOX!!!!

I know i'm going to be yelled at, but F it. I'm a cubs fan, but I am super happy for the Sox. I'm happy for Chicago, more then anything else.

Good Luck Chicago White Sox!

Apparently many people care, have you been watching the news? Listening to the radio? Even some of us cub fans are happy to see the sox in the world series.

Hey, Don't be jealous and a poor sport. If you can't get pumped and excited that a "Chicago" team is going to the World Series, then I question if you are a "true" baseball fan. You do realize that the Sox going this far may just wake up the Tribune to finally do something. Its great for Chicago.

WSCR has been amazing radio listening!

Who is listening to the radio past 1am on a Sunday night?

Until The Sox win the World Series, you Sox fans, all 37 of ya, can't say shyte!!!!!

Bottom line, it doesn't mean anything if you don't win it all!!!!! Nobody remembers runner up!!!

And yes, I am a bitter Cubs fan!!!! Just like you Sox fans were bitter in 2003!!!

Same goes here. I'm a Cubbies fan. Always have been, always will be. But I don't hold any bitterness towards Sox fans. I don't get it. Sure, it's been like this for decades, but the bottom line here is that the White Sox ARE going to the World Series. The Cubbies had the same exact opportunity a couple years back and completely imploded. We had our chance. The Sox now are there and we should be happy and support them, regardless.

But I do have to say that much of the media coverage, especially TV, was just horrible. I mean, the reporters were just pathetic with their questions (Hello!! How do you think they feel? Or what this means to them?, etc.). Corey McPherrin (sp?)on Fox was simply embarassing. He ran out in a middle of an interview, barging in on Howard Sudberry's interview, etc. Shameless.

I do want to know why it seems that the White Sox fans display much more bitterness towards Cubs fans and it's not so much the other way around? Sox are going to the World Series and yet the Sox fans still feel as if they need to put down Cubbie fans? Why? What will that prove? Sure, some Cubbies fans are bitter, but most simply just don't care about the White Sox and move on with their lives. The Sox better win it all though. Otherwise, the Cubbie fans will have a field day with all the talk and lip from Sox fans. That would be a bit humiliating I think.

Anyway, coming from a Cubbies fan, GO SOX and bring home another championship for the greatest motherf'n city on the planet, Chicago!!

Re: WSCR & ESPN 1000 should be embarrassed

Some body is a little too gung-ho on WSCR - they started with the Holmes guy saying "Sox win 5-3!" (it was 6-3) And Larry Holmes plus Jessie Rogers means that WSCR sent in the D-TEAM - their 2 worst hosts - so you can pull back on your Score love now. Also, the new ratings should be embarassing for both of them hovering at the bottom, and ESPN just had the hot Sox all year and still barely moved up a notch. Neither made the top 20. I know Chicago would support a good sports station, but these 2 are bad.

Agreed.

Perception. Try getting some of the calls I get from Cub fan friends and family. They are profoundly bitter.

Nope. I have a pennant to hang up in my house. :) Nothing humiliating about that at all.

Agreed again!

You can go ahead and hang that pennant. It doesn't mean a damn thing if you don't win the World Series.

LOL...true, you got me there. I can't say that I have a pennant hanging up in mine.

I didn't expect an educated response from you, Z_K, based on your earlier "37 fans" remark. The sad truth for you is that the number of diehard, educated fans is about equal for each team. Even the newspaper writers will agree on that. Do the Cubs have more casual fans? Absolutely. Would they still come to Wrigley if the seats were facing away from the field? I believe it was the manager of Hi-Tops who said as much in an interview.

A league championship is a league championship. Period. (Makes the timing of the move to the Score fortuitous for Infinity is what it does, though I will definitely miss hearing Rooney making the call next year.)

First of all I am a White Sox Fan and I am so proud of the Sox this year. I was listening to am1000 early monday morning after the game while in Chicago and could not beleive that they went over to the espn network show. I know am1000 is losing the White Sox rights after this year but the Score 670 did a fantastic job and the phone lines were jammed pretty much until Mike North came on for the morning show. WSCR did a bang up job after the game was over . I must say it seemed like at times that the post game show after 11:30pm on am1000 seemed replayed from the previous hour. I will be so happy next year when they are on 670wscr with a clear signal out by me in Plainfield versus the static I have now on am1000.

As for why Sox fans hate Cub fans I can sum it up like this, Many Cub fans look at the White Sox as a 2nd rate baseball team with 2nd rate fans with no knowledge of baseball or think we have no fans at all. Too set the record straight we have always had a decent ballclub over the past 15 years at least a .500 record or better just had bad luck or couldn't put it all together. The sox have many fans that no longer reside in the city but in the suburbs like me who lives all the way out in Plainfield making it more difficult to get to games versus where I grew up near Midway Airport. Most Sox fans are Blue-Collar workers and are more knowledgeable about baseball in general and are in most cases DIE-HARD FANS. We will be the first to admit when are team is good and the first to say we suck. I always felt as if I was looked down upon for being a Sox fan growing up. You can almost compare this years Sox going to the World Series like the little brother that finally showed up big brother and is getting his props. However big brother is whinning throwing a fit!!!

GO CHICAGO WHITE SOX

John in Plainfield

One word, two syllables: Bartman.

Take care now.

Re: ESPN 1000/ Sox vs Cubs

My02AccordEx,
Where are you located in Plainfield? I know that going south on Caton Farm Rd. and Lockport St., WMVP gets all fuzzy. The fuzziness starts about 1 mi from Rt. 59, and ends at Drauden Rd.

Re: ESPN 1000/ Sox vs Cubs

While I don't consider the Sox as second rate, I do wonder about some of it's clientel. While I attend more Cubs games than Sox games, it seems that every time I attend a Sox game, a fight between a couple of drunks breaks out near by. I mean like everytime. I have never heard so many curse words used at a pro sporting event as what I have heard at Sox Park (this should fit with WSCR's jock image).

The last time I attended a Sox game, it was when they played Seattle (a couple of years ago) and the Sox fans heckled and heckled the Asian Seattle attendees mercilessly.

Maybe WSCR will be able to capture this Sox fan mentality. Like generous use of vulgar words and throwing water baloons from the broadcast booth at visiting team fans. Maybe they could have a field announcer periodically pick a fight with somebody and come up to the booth and share his view of the outcome (using an occasional vulgarities). Being arrested would be great promotional value!

The new color guy could be a very large person who obviously drinks way too much beer and sweats profusely while talking.

There was a fan killed outside a Cub game last season - something that didn't happen at the Cell. If we want to continue speaking in stupid generalizations, maybe WGN should have Pat Hughes gun down an innocent bystander after a game to "capture the Cub fan mentality."
