ESPN 920/Fox 1460

I have to give these Lotus AM sports stations credit for having a lot of local programming. They are live and local for most of the day. They both even have quality local shows on Sunday nights. I'm pretty sure they have more hours of live and local than any other AMs in town.

Sometimes they even talk about things going on around town and local news items that are not sports related. I think they have the most "community" feel of any of the AMs in Vegas.

Two hours of local programming (Hanson 1-3) does not constitute "most of the day".

Most of their shows are piped in from either ESPN in Bristol or Fox Sports in L.A.

Not true. ESPN Radio 920 is live from 1pm to 7pm with local programming every weekday; except when live play-by-play pre-empts. There are local features like Game Show Radio and Leroy's Sports Show on 920 also. ESPN Radio 920 is the home of UNLV Rebel Football and the UNLV Runnin' Rebels.

Fox Sportsradio 1460 is proud to be home of The Wiseguys. They are kind of like a more sports-oriented Don & Mike....but still with a lot of general "guy" talk. Papa Joe, The Golf Guru and Leroy's Sports Hour also reside on 1460 every day. Between the two stations, we air every single huge sporting event from the Super Bowl and NFL Playoffs to the Rose Bowl...From the World Series and ALCS/NLCS to the Kentucky Derby.

Over the past few years, John Hanson has taken these stations that were nothing but relays for the satellite sports programming and turned them in two nationally respected sports stations. It was John Hanson, at a Super Bowl press conference, who asked NFL Commisionner Paul Tagliabue why Vegas is getting screwed by the NFL. Paul was left stammering and embarrassed at a national press conference. We aired it live. None of the local TV sports guys have ever had that same opportunity.

We'll be at the Super Bowl again with live and taped interviews; and this year, even video from the interviews that will be uploaded in almost real time at our websites.

Thanks for the kudos Jay!!

My bad, I apologize. I'm use to the usual Vegas Sports Pass-Thru.

I agree with Jay and Demo Dave. These 2 stations were nothing but satellite relays a few years back but have grown into solid "local" alternatives. What's more frustrating is there's a few larger markets around the country, that actually have NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL professional franchises, where the "local" sports stations don't do nearly the amount of local progamming they should. Be glad you have Lotus and a company that, although cheap at times, isn't caught up in managing 100's of properties and can concentrate on making the few markets they have good for the local listener.

Thanks Bill. Although, the "cheap" designation that many give Lotus just isn't true anymore. I've been there 18 years and YES...we were very cheap. The wages were low, the equipment was held together with duct tape at times....but it was a great place to work.

But now...The Lotus Broadcasting facilities are easily the best in town. We built a new building from the ground up in 2001 with modern architecture, new equipment including Harris digital boards in every studio, and new furniture throughout. The wages are now competitive with the market...and we still have the best management in Vegas. The days of duct tape are (thank god) long gone! :)

If anyone ever wants a tour of our facility, look me up! [email protected]
