I hope they put alternative or country there if they do end up buying it. It would pair well with Q104.3.Maybe (and I admit this is unlikely) IHM buys 98.7 then spins off 710 in a sale? Then perhaps 710 ends up in the hands of Good Karma and ESPN continues there?
If a major radio chain is indeed the buyer, and if the format it installs is indeed alt or country, then there are going to be a whole bunch of confident industry pundits in this forum struggling to explain why.I hope they put alternative or country there if they do end up buying it. It would pair well with Q104.3.
So why do these discussions always turn so quickly to a racial angle?
Maybe KEXP will buy it. Then it would be Alternative. They just bought into San Francisco
Why? AM 1050 is already home to ESPN radio to begin with.Maybe (and I admit this is unlikely) IHM buys 98.7 then spins off 710 in a sale? Then perhaps 710 ends up in the hands of Good Karma and ESPN continues there?

Maxed out on FMs, so not possible.Maybe (and I admit this is unlikely) IHM buys 98.7 then spins off 710 in a sale? Then perhaps 710 ends up in the hands of Good Karma and ESPN continues there?
Well no, they already said ESPN will continue on its original home 1050 AMMaybe (and I admit this is unlikely) IHM buys 98.7 then spins off 710 in a sale? Then perhaps 710 ends up in the hands of Good Karma and ESPN continues there?
Consider this- What percentage of in-key-demo or fringe demo white persons in the metro today even want to use radio full-time or as much as they used to given the newer competing technologies. I suspect their loyalty to the still very very dependable radio might be tenuous in let me say a theoretically all-white NYC. Changes in technology mean that things will never be the same as before.Because one of the first rules of any business is that you always segment the market. When you have as much ethnic diversity as you do in New York, you have to consider who your approach will reach, how you're going to market to that population, and whether your approach will work with enough members of that audience to be relevant and successful.
Another reason is because most of the people posting on this board are white, and we tend to think about programming we like and programming we see that is missing. That the New York market might not have the demographics to support that missing programming or might have larger minority groups that would make better marketing targets aren't the first things that come to most of our minds.
If we were posting on the Iowa board talking about changes in Des Moines, we probably wouldn't be having these discussions.

88% - And the other 12% are in the home? Seriously though, people like new toys and give their attention to them. Thank you for the stats info! I read there that there is hope. Re: the stats info , I consider social media to be like writing on the bathroom wall but with authorship signatures. I don't care for it. Radio on the other hand when done well means professional creativity.88%.

What we know is they use many forms of media, not just one. They use whatever gets them the content they want.

“We’re committed to serving the New York sports fan and with the combination of our AM signal, the ESPN New York App, podcasts, smart speakers, YES and other additional audio and video distribution, investing in an FM signal was not relevant in the way it was a decade ago,” Good Karma Brands CEO and founder Craig Karmazin told The Post.
The couple of most recent times I've heard local content on 98.7, there was a lot of talk about the ESPN New York app. I have never used it, but how useful is it for live interactive talk shows? It's probably great for getting caught up on your favorite show though. As I said, it's not a one-or-the other thing. They can listen to WEPN on their phones. It's all measured the same way.
Yes, of course, the phone is among other things a convenient radio receiver too, however a station can get buried in the vast internet streaming world. Is streaming radio content really a big piece of the pie?As I said, it's not a one-or-the other thing. They can listen to WEPN on their phones. It's all measured the same way.
From the OP
1050’s signal sucks. Especially in NJWhy? AM 1050 is already home to ESPN radio to begin with.
You'd be talking about KJMC - sure, it's a non-comm, but it is programming to Black audiences. If we were posting on the Iowa board talking about changes in Des Moines, we probably wouldn't be having these discussions.

I know you meant iHeartMedia but my mind went to Immaculate Heart Media (aka Relevant Radio). But even then I can't see that group wanting to pay the amount that Emmis is desiring for 98.7. Or pretty much anyone else except for Cats.Maybe (and I admit this is unlikely) IHM buys 98.7 then spins off 710 in a sale?
