ESPN 98.7?

It remains to be seen whether any of the Kiss staff will be on the new WBLS. Emmis said it will provide "generous" severance packages to the staff members that are being let go.
Emmis' statement about the LMA of Kiss to ESPN stated that the station has not been as profitable as it used to be, since the advent of the PPM audience measurement system.
Were there any significant differences in the programming of Kiss and WBLS, other than the personalities?

And also from that ESPN NY article 1050 will become ESPN Deportes. Well it's good in some ways

For me 1050's signal..spotty and fades in and out. With the new ESPN NY 98.7, that problem should clear up.

And there are the rumors about the Yankees maybe moving from WCBS 880. This is perhaps their final season as the flagship of the Yankees Radio Net (which includes some CT stations like WICC, WWCO, WAVZ and even New Hampshire station WTSN). And as much as I have supported them, I think it's time for John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman to be replaced. Their shtick is getting old. But who would get the nod?

I am very outraged on this...ESPN Radio as stated by D21ofNJ should be on 101.9 which is a better reception..<Thanks for airing that on here.

I have always been a Kiss listener since it flipped to Urban and Urban AC.

EMMIS IS MAKING A BIG MISTAKE!!! A BIG ONE!

Can Kiss be on HD2?? Sure...But the reception needs to be much better just like its HD1 counterpart.

The story on the Kiss / BLS Web Site says Midday host Shala and evening Host Lenny Green will be part of the new BLS in their same time slots. I wonder if long time Newsman Bob Slade will be part of the new
operation? This weekend they are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Kiss and also saying Good By.
Till Sunday night at Midnight they are simulcasting on Both Stations.

So does this mean Emmis is buying WBLS?
No, the new owners of WBLS bought the "intellectual property" of WRKS.
What I do not understand is why they felt the need to do that. Why couldn't they just continue to operate WBLS as it is?

This is a complete shocker. I don't think anybody saw 98.7 on the radar. It's very disappointing to me. I listen to ESPN radio every morning, but 98.7 and 107.5 were the only 2 music stations that I listened to with any regularity.

Will there be any rebranding on WBLS, like "Kiss 107.5", or will they stay the same but with different personalities?

WBLS was in financial trouble, and so was Emmis. An investment in 98.7 Kiss FM's intellectual property for the combined ratings could be worth it. WBLS will be in the top 3 now.

Yes, I read that the "Kiss" brand will move to 107.5. I'm curious if they will change the call letters or keep it WBLS. Those letters are pretty legendary.

WRKS was doing much better in the ratings than WBLS, so they are buying that extra audience. They are going to be running some RKS shows instead of what they have been doing.

And, they are also making sure that nobody else can re-create Kiss on another frequency. (the usual suspects)

It will be interesting to see if WBLS gets much of a cume boost from its current 1.8-million level, but it certainly is likely to get a nice boost in AQH (average quarter hour) as it becomes the only urban AC in the market. This is a nice break for the new owners of WBLS.

What they're not selling is the heritage of 98.7, which was once WOR-FM, the first progressive rock station in NYC, followed by WXLO 99X, the first Top 40 FM in NY. Now they are the first sports talk station in NY. That is a famed and fabled frequency.

Had ESPN come up with more money than Randy Michaels last summer, the frequency may have very well been theirs.
