An article in the RC Journal mentions how KRKI, ESPN 99.5 wants to go to a 70/30 split on national vs local coverage. KRKI is looking to add coverage of local high school sports. The Journal's "Rapid Replies", reader comments about the story, were more focused on the station's signal with some northern Hills readers wishing for better coverage. Others said they don't care about high school sports and would prefer the ESPN feed.
Rapid City has never struck me as a sports crazy town with several professional teams having come and again in the 7 years I have lived here. There aren't any local talk shows of any kind in Rapid, sports or current events. So I wonder if KRKI would find enough revenue to make it pay to cover local sports?
