ESPN/ABC sports talent

I really think that the anchors and play by play announcers for ESPN/ABC sports are very, very poor. They are not good broadcasters, not respectable to the viewers, and don't know how do to play by play and anchor any broadcasts the right way . What are you thoughts on this?

You're not alone, Julius. ESPN/ABC coverage of the World Cup is beyond terrible.

On The Media, produced by WNYC, New York and distributed by NPR, did a piece on this last weekend that looked at coverage in different countries, which singled out ESPN/ABC for special criticism.
International Pastime
It’s that time again, when the world’s best soccer players take to the pitch, their fans take to the TV, and smart guys take to the media to describe how soccer explains the world. But might the ways soccer is covered also offer insight about national identity? Bob speaks to soccer maven (and The New Republic editor) Franklin Foer about how the rest of the world calls the game.

Well the ESPN play by play guys for baseball do a fine job. Also I say the broadcasters for college basketball, college football, NBA. If you want to be talking about poor broadcasters talk about the guys that do baseball on FOX, the worst in the business Buck and McCarvier.

Look, when it comes right down to it.

The only things ESPN is good at are the sports where they have exclusive rights to

like NFL and MLB.

The other sports where they combined with ABC makes it impossible to know which

is giving their A game (ABC or ESPN)

And everytime you watch the opening of sportscenter, the anchors drool all over

any sport that ABC has so that you can watch it even if you don't have the interest.

And speaking of SportsCenter, what will happen on the 6:00/5:00 edition.

Will they have a permanent anchor or is Dan Patrick done?

I hope NBC gets a game of the week if they get rights to MLB I don't care much for Buck and McCarver either. But if they're seprate then maybe things will be better.

If there is an English professor about, would he or she kindly explain to me what the phrase "explain the world" means?
After all...if a reporter is going to criticize the US media, might they bother to use proper english.

Just a thought.

Dan Patrick has been traveling for ABC's coverage of the NBA Playoffs, which is why he has been absent from the 6 PM SC. After a brief vacation, he should be returning to the anchor desk, along with his regular cohorts Mike Greenberg and Jay Harris.
