I know 1400 has switched formats...and that there already two sports stations
in Miami...any talk of ESPN radio getting a new affiliate in the area, apart from
the station already in West Palm?

I sure hope not. I think all the people who own radio stations
are NOW smart enough to realize that two sports stations are
plenty for a market this size.

Especially considering how many popular formats are no longer
on even one station here: party, classical, big band, oldies, etc.

Changing WFLL to Caribbean was a wise move. One I didn't expect.

What kind of music does the popular 'party' format play ? ;)

You're asking me? I thought you were a big fan of the station that replaced WTMI... Potty 93.1.

To me it's discordant noise, but I thought you said there was a big following for it.

Duh. I was being sarcastic in referencing your surprising inclusion of 'party' as a 'popular format'. I knew what you really meant.

'PARTY-93.1' was obviously a Pure Dance station aqui en Miami, but the 'PARTY' moniker in other cities have been used for hip hop, rap, pop, rock, and even country radio stations. It's just a nickname - sort of like your crazy handle on this board. I thought you were going to get the Managing Board Editor to change that for you ?

Party 93.1 remindes me of the ill-fated "Disco96" circa 1978. The brain trusts running 96X jumped on the Disco bandwagon thinking a "Pure Disco" station would survive. I laughed as I walked out the door when it started....laughed harder when I returned when they dumped the format, just to return to 96X. Don't get me wrong, I like some disco music...just not in the gigunda mega sized doses of 24/7. ;D

Just because it's not popular with me (I think it sucks) doesn't mean I can't acknowledge you guys who are potty music fans.

I also write about WEDR-FM, WHQT-FM, WMIB-FM, WAVS, and WJBW-FM -- and enjoy listening to Tom Joyner -- and I'm no John Howard Griffin. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Howard_Griffin if you don't know who he is.)

Yes, I filled in their contact form this week. Let's see how long it takes to get read.

DISCO RULES !

We had a 'DISCO-93' up in Washington D.C. during those fun-lovin' days and nights of the late-1970s. It morphed from soul to disco and then back to soul again once disco was killed off by the haters.

On a personal note I loved (and still love) the disco music of the era. Tonight I'll be at a private party where I'll be 'spinning' disco hits. I'm also currently working on an ALL-DISCO edition of my web site's 'Weekly Review'.

Stu - Why did you not want to be a disco jock at 'DISCO-96' ?
