espn app

i've used the espn app since its first release. other than being a battery hog, its never ending ads (even for a paid app) & occasional glitches, it was a decent way to stream espn content on the go. over the past few years, i've used it to stream NBA games when travelling quite a bit.

espn upgraded the app yesterday.

wow. judging by the itunes app store comments, it was a PR disaster.

anyone else have the same negative reaction - being made to pay an additional $5 dollars on top of the "one time" $3 initial charge? you get an initial 14 day trial period before being forced to upgrade. the old app dies on august 1.

in my opinion, it looks like a decent upgrade (especially for ipad users) but the execution was awful and pretty sketchy ethics-wise.

is this the wave of the future for all mobile radio content?

no.

the $5 upgrade is a one time fee.

i think people are upset that they're being forced to pay again for a product that was already paid for once and in addition having to sign in or create an espn account. its kind of cheeky.

plus, the app is very buggy.

I just download the app recently, and you're right...it is very buggy. I've wanted to get it for quite awhile, but I didn't want to pay for it, especially when I have SiriusXM (which carries ESPN Radio, ESPN Xtra [which is simulcast of its TV programs], and a SportsCenter channel), and there's other radio apps (Stitcher and TuneIn) where you could get ESPN radio content for free.
