ESPN Better Than NOW

Any thoughts about how WEPN-FM is for the first time doing better than WNOW-FM? (2.3 - WEPN, 2.1 WNOW)

Any messages to send to NOW for making it better?

Ratings demos matter, not the 6+ beauty pageant. Now works great as part of the cluster strategy.

Ummm... have you seen the breakdowns of NOW's ratings? Nothing about that is working well. In anybody's cluster.

Very fitting..good move cBS..you go out of the way to keep this crap on the air (by killing off a station showing ratings potential, RXP). Not surprising coming from the same idiots that put jack on 101.1.

The present management of CBS Radio didn't put Jack FM on 101.1 and were the ones who changed it back. When are you Rock Snobs going to realize that the majority of the American listening public doesn't want to hear modern rock and that it doesn't attract advertisers?

I've seen the breakdowns, the billings, and I know the people running it. It's not the massive failure you and others are playing it up to be.

Considering how well the temp RXP format without any promotion and DJ's was doing against the established NOW-FM, switching NOW to Alternative rock would be a far better cluster strategy.

I am doubtful that will happen considering CBS Radio's history of blowing up heritage rock stations. I therefore expect they would rather crash and burn with NOW-FM rather than switch to rock.

As far as Jack-FM, I suspect if they had remained CBS-FM and slowly transitioned to the Jack-FM playlist the station would be doing just fine. The horrible imaging killed it as well as blowing up a heritage station people were accustomed to.

Today CBS-FM is doing quite well even though it is nothing like the old CBS-FM and is more like Jack-FM. People still listen to it because it is CBS-FM it seems.

I really do not know how people listen to CBS-FM these days. It is awful, I would take the old CBS-FM any day over this crap or the JACK-FM format a few months before the switch. That last month of Jack sounded more like a middle of the road rock station.

To followup on the last post, I was a big listener of Version 1 of WCBS-FM and was crushed when it flipped to Jack. I do listen to version 2 of WCBS-FM, but not as much as I did years ago. I am not thrilled with the 80s music which is now being played. I feel that the playlist is very tight, but in this internet era there are more alternatives. I have a subscription to SiriusXM and listen to several stations there. Rewound Radio and Pop Gold Radio are two excellent oldies stations.

Point is CBS corporate has made huge blunders. 92.3 Now is a dog that'll have to be changed eventually..most likely sooner than later. The decision to keep this unwanted and unnecessary format around is yet another poor one for CBS. RXP v2.0 proved there is an audience for the alternative format..as much as you apparent haters of the format would like to ignore this.

Here's the year over year DROP in NOW's ratings...

· Teens - down -64.3%
· P18-34 - down -41.5%
· W18-34 - down -35.6%
· P18-49 - down -27.5%
· W18-49 - down -19.6%

They are doing amazing!!

I think you mean 70s? Every time I listen to CBS FM it sounds like 70s disco. Jack-FM and the former CBS-FM is far better than the current CBS-FM. CBS-FM now is like disco 92. They should just bring Paco back at this point.

btw - FU CBS Radio.

WCBS-FM should he a slogan - You give us 22 minutes and we'll give you KC and the Sunshine Band

I do enjoy the Hall of Fame features which gives some diversity to the regular tight playlist. I just wish there would be a Heart of Rock N Roll show on Sunday nights which would play the 1955-63 hits. I guess the advertisers would not go for it.

Now that WFAN is on 101.9, CBS will want to find a spot for an all-news simulcast of either WCBS-AM or WINS. CBS' heritage all-news stations in San Francisco and Chicago are simulcast on FM. It will happen in New York.

If WEPN-FM is actually ahead of 92.3 NOW-FM, then the station is in big trouble. :)

Wouldn't CBS pushing these spoken word brands on to FM play right into the hands of CCE+E? Notice that CCM+E stations are just sitting there, business as usual, while people (around here) speculate what CBS music station will fall to the simulcast curse...
