Billboard report

A high-profile programmer is leaving a high-profile station to return to his sports roots.

Tribune talk WGN Chicago PD Len Weiner exits after nine months on the job to join J Sports’ sports talk simulcast WAMG/WLLH (ESPN 890/1400) Boston for a similar position. The move is effective April 5.

Weiner is an ESPN veteran, having programmed ABC Radio-owned sports talk WMVP (ESPN 1000) Chicago for two years before joining WGN.

From 1993-2003, Weiner served as assistant GM/director of programming for ESPN Radio at its headquarters in Bristol, Conn.

While saying that he's "very excited to be back with the ESPN family," Weiner acknowledged his time at the legendary Chicago talk station. "I'll be forever thankful to the people at WGN for giving me a chance to be part of its rich history, an experience I will always treasure.”

Weiner replaces Doug Tribou, who exited.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. WAMG will always be an also-ran in Boston, and for this he gave up a gig at WGN?
By the way, the WLLH-AM stick in Lawrence has been off-the-air for two weeks. Does anyone there know, or care?
