ESPN Classic, ESPN3.com to televise Roger Clemens minor league 'comeback'

The Clemens deal has received tons of coverage here in Houston, actually being the lead story on several local newscasts. Gotta be one of the most brilliant publicity stunts of all time, especially for a first-year independent minor league team. And with the stunningly awful Astros sinking into total irrelevance, the timing is perfect.

The Skeeters have done pretty well in their inaugural season, as a cheap, family friendly sports option. Nice to see them get all this attention. I've been to a game, nice ballpark (seats 7,500) with a fun atmosphere.

I'm hoping Clemens does NOT wind up pitching for the Astros in September, as it would it would be a total bread and circuses farce for a team that should be putting every effort in building for the future. The Astros and NBA Rockets are launching their new sports network in a few weeks (CSN Houston) and both teams need to put out a product that is worth watching, and will get carriage on cable/satellite providers.

I've seen a couple MLB analysts surmise that Clemens might sign with the Astros to reset his HOF eligibility. He is supposed to be on the next ballot for the first time. If he pitches in MLB again he gets put off for another five years, perhaps giving voters more time to forget the steroids and vote him in.

50 years old and in great shape.
Once again pitches in majors and performs well while passing every conceivable unannounced drug test.
Resets HOF eligibility for reasons given.
Makes sense to me.

I seriously doubt that Clemens would get in on the first ballot despite his acquittal of him doing steroids. Just ask Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds about this since they both are eligible for the MLB Hall of Fame and have yet to get in because of their steroid use. If the MLB committee would be real smart, they would forgive Pete Rose for gambling on his own team and put him in the Hall of Fame first before Clemens, McGwire and/or Bonds because he didn't dabble in steroids like they did.
