ESPN Classic?

I know it moved to a different tier on many cable systems, but am not sure if the plans to move to VOD have been changed.

I thought ESPN were in the process of getting rid of linear ESPN Classic and converting it to VOD. But a new streaming service called HDHomeRun has ESPN Classic included in their channel guide https://www.silicondust.com/premium-tv/

Here's what Wikipedia says:

On October 1, 2014, ESPN Classic began a gradual transition into a video on demand-only service, with Dish Network becoming the first to discontinue carriage of the linear channel and carry it as a VOD service on that date. Other providers will follow suit on an unknown timetable. In December 2017, cable companies Comcast Xfinity and Altice USA dropped the ESPN Classic linear channel from their TV lineups.

--------

My take is that ESPN is looking to monetize this service on multiple platforms, not just their own VOD. So if they can get a transmission fee from HDHomeRun, that's OK. But that's not a traditional cable company.
