ESPN, ESPN2 See Same U.S. Household Penetration For First Time

It took ESPN2 this long to catch up? I remember them being added to our lineup here in New Britain, CT back in 1993, about a month after their station launched. (Yes, Bristol, CT is about 7 or 8 miles to my west!)

Can you say "Coach" and "White Shadow" reruns?

OTOH, ESPN Classic steeply declined within the same time period (June '09 to June '10). I think that's a sign changes are on the way for that channel.

In the past year, Dish and DirecTV have also moved ESPN Classic to their respective "sports" packages, from more available packages. This might have to play in the network's distribution losses.

As for changes, how about "ESPN Radio on TV?" Colin Cowherd's show has never been compatible with ESPNU. If they moved Mike & Mike, The Herd, and Scott Van Pelt's television simulcasts to the network, that would make a lot of sense, and free up ESPN2 and ESPNU for other programs. However, I could see the radio affiliates having a say against this.

I believe "White Shadow" reruns air frequently on the YES Network - or at least they used to.

Last saw "Coach" on USA Network; not sure where it is these days on the dial...

WGN America had "Coach" up to about 4 months ago, It seem like it comes back during football season.

It was worse in Bristol itself Kevin. I don't remember when we got it, but it was quite a while after it launched and it was all the way up on Channel 56. Nowhere near ESPN.

You've got to give them credit: Disney has done a great job with this brand, and they've made the Deuce a must-have channel for men. TBS is also doing a great job with their sports franchises. CBS made a huge mistake separating cable from broadcast. What's Spike? They took a channel that was in almost as many households as ESPN and squandered it. The biggest waste of space on my cable box, other than the shopping channels. A CBS sports cable channel would be very smart. In the meantime, ESPN has cable sports almost all to themselves.
