ESPN Exterminating Froggy June 4

OK once again this point has strayed...
DOES ANYBODY KNOW, to the letter, if FedMed has the deal sealed to take ESPN 1380 over to 106.7 FM?????? HUH???
(And for my opinion, Q101 is bland. Not my cup of tea, even if it's originating from my lil' town in Indiana. I miss GOOD rock on FM.)

Now we're refocused. Anybody got a hard and fast clue here??

Yea Federated is getting Fox, The second best sports network. Swick Broadcasting has the ESPN contract for the territory and has it on 92.7 and in HD.

I find it interesting that Federated put all of that money into essentially giving up on Fort Wayne and moving the station north to better serve Auburn, Garrett and Angola,

A longtime employee with influence had that idea. So in late May 2005, we had the death of Smooth Jazz 106.7 WFJZ and the birth of 106.7 Froggy Radio.

just to decide a few short years later that they want to once again try to be a Fort Wayne station, but now as an even deeper rimshot signal than before. I wish them good luck.

The same employee is no longer handling 106.7's strategy.

I'm told 106.7 will go FOX Sports and the aforementioned local sports talk show will air on both 1380 ESPN and the new 106.7 FOX Sports. Upon launch, 106.7 may have another slogan, but I'm unaware of any solidified plans.

1380 does the TinCaps. I think they carry Purdue football and hoops too, but don't quote me on that.

Well, maybe there is something to this then. Young men in FW might be more likely to listen to the games on FM.

Or perhaps Henson is being given too much autonomy in making these decisions. He's shaking up a consistently well performing, if not spectacular cluster of stations.

I received my Ft.Wayne Business Weekly news paper after a week earlier Federated stating that they were going to be the ESPN station, now Federated has stated NO ESPN for 106.7 for Froggy WFGA Auburn due to the conflict with Swick Broadcasting ESPN 92.7 in Angola, so Fox Sports it is! Definitely Federated got the kart before the horse, Huh who would have thunk it?

Apparently there's a rampant case of "foot in mouth" disease on Maples Rd.

This foot in mouth thing seems to have started since Tony left. Knowing whether Fed could've put ESPN on 106.7 would of been known with TR as COO. Just my two cents worth...

I see the logic of moving sports to FM in markets that have professional teams that are popular, but question how this would work in Elkhart. Does the station carry the Colts or a Chicago based pro team?

I understand the logic of the 95.7/1290 simulcast as 95.7 covers the southern portion of the market and 1290 fills in the holes to the north, but why 102.7? There's a lot of coverage overlap between the two FMs with 102.7 barely even hitting Elkhart, which seems to be covered better with 95.7. I don't know...seems kind of like overkill to me.

The studio for 102.7 is going to be moved/ran out of Warsaw with the sales staff there too. They are going to put Warsaw high school sports on 102.7, along with other local programming out of Warsaw which is now currently on ESPN 1480.

As far as the Colts, last I knew 97.7/102.3 had the Colts, and 103.9 had the Bears (all of which could have changed or will change with the addition of sports formats to the market). With that being said, ESPN 1480 picked up the Cubs, but I don't know if they can or have plans to move it to 102.7.

I hope SOMEBODY in Warsaw realized that they can take 107.3 BACK to a better rock station if they're taking sports coverage off WRSW. (I have a feeling they'll keep other sports on it; they cover more than just Warsaw HS.) We shall see when football rolls around again.

Triton and Tipp Valley sports will stay in place on WRSW-FM. As far as the music goes, no changes are going to be made. Warsaw sports have been on the AM only for a while. As far as Tiger sports goes, having an FM back will probably be nice for the folks who follow the Tigers.

ESPN 1480's signal is terrible at night. Actually, they have been stuck at night pattern for over a year at 500 watts... nobody minding the transmitter site as of late.

If I were a betting man, I'd say the Cubbies on FM, and high school sports on AM.

Warsaw HS sports has been on WRSW AM 1480 for years. I worked there from 1980 to 1985...Tigers were on AM Tippecanoe Valley on FM at least during those 5 years I was there. As for WRSW AM 1480 signal... I hear them fine in Rochester during the day when they are 1000 watts ND. They are 500 watts DA at night beaming most of the signal slightly north and east of Warsaw with a minor lobe to the south of Warsaw.

Answering FWMW's question above, the two Froggies (102.7 and 106.7) as well as classic rock 95.7 WAOR in South Bend are all slated to flip to "The Fan" this morning at 9 AM local time.
