ESPN ON ...UM....EH..ABC

re: College Football Countdown...boy is it coming off awkward early. Saunders has slipped three times throwing it to break by stumbling toward through the letters A B C>

The shift around the nation crashed and burned. Unflappable Jack Arute booted it to Todd Harris...who threw it to a totally unaware announcerette in Ohio....via a pre taped shot with another coach....to a sky shot of the Ohio State Band..to the throughly confused anchorette who was checking to see if her mic was on.....after she said her piece, she was literally engulfed by the Ohio State Marching Band who stops for no one....

wow....now which group had more experience at this? The ESPN Production crew or ABC Sports..

and, no, they HAVENT been the same consistent group of workers, until the formal takeover.

ok, itll get better i'm sure...but , boy its a rough start.

its actually not as bad as i thought. They actual acknowledge they are on ABC. When they first announced this idea I thought they ment they werent even going to say the word "ABC", but I was wrong thank god. Its not to bad. It will get better.

As Creepy as it looked, it's something that I will enjoy.

It will take a while, but I think it will work out fine because it's ESPN

That alone has strengthen the brand in full force.

I know it isn't ABC Sports with those bad Yellow Jackets but I think

it works out just fine in my book.

I was very surprised that the ads on TV and in print don't mention ESPN at all.

Also is ABC running anything nationally between 7-8 PM Eastern between games? the local affiliate in Atlanta (WSB) is running an hour long footbal show covering college and High School football.

I saw part of the college football game and they showed ESPN on the scoreboard and on the bottom side of the screen the ABC logo appears.

ESPN On ABC may get a little bit of getting used to,but there are others like Nick Jr. On CBS and Disney Saturday Mornings On ABC both indicating which network owns Nick Jr. and Disney Saturday Mornings.

i am interested to see how other sports will work out wiht ESPN on ABC. For instance next weekends IRL race on ABC and next seasons NASCAR races on ABC. I wonder what thye will call it. "NASCAR ON ESPN ON ABC"? lol. cause all the NASCAR networks are named NASCAR On FOX, NASCAR ON TNT, NASCAR On NBC, and so on.

The 7 to 8 PM ET block is probably still local, although there will probably be runover on games at times.

I have another question. With Saturday night college football being started on ABC, will there still be some afternoons with college football doubleheaders, or will the night game replace what would have been the early afternoon game?

Except for the traditional Friday after Thanksgiving doubleheader (Colorado vs Nebraska/Texas vs Texas A&M), it does not appear that there will be any games in the early afternoon on ABC anymore and that the 8 PM game has replaced the Noon game. there is an exception to that the last week of the season which is a triple header (ACC Champ/UCLA vs USC/Big XII Champ).

It'll be interesting to see how Saturday Night College Football on ESPN On ABC does against Saturday Night NFL Football on NFL Network (And local stations in the the markets of the teams playing) come Thanksgiving Weekend.

Cheers :D

I don't think there are going to be any conflicts with that at all..except for the last weekend of November and the first week of December because the NFL network games on Saturday night don't start until the Satruday after Thanksgiving.

Did the sports bars have anything to do with the NFL network putting games on their channel? Since Cable systems don't usually carry NFL Network except on expanded Digital cable (which most people don't subscribe to) so if you are a football fan you are going to have to go to a sports bar to watch those NFL network games (and the two extra bowl games NFL network is showing as well). Thus the Sports bars get extra revenue. Interesting how that works.

True except in the markets of the teams in the game. In most of those cases, local stations (regardless of network affiliation) are picking up these games via syndication (With the station with preseason game rights most likely being given the right of first refusal). If the station who has preseason game rights refuses the NFL Network games (As was apparently the case here in Denver with KDVR 31 getting the ESPN & NFL Network games along with the two games aired by FOX even though CBS O&O KCNC 4 has the Broncos preseason game rights), then the games are put up for grabs for anyone who wants them.

ESPN is doing the same thing with MNF games.

Dunno 'bout that.

Cheers :D

ABC is still doing a 3:30 game, but they had an FCC ruling go against them regarding the pre-emption of E/I programming on the West Coast during the Noon Eastern game. It started during the World Cup.

Most weeks last season thay only had 3:30 regional games.

The early Saturday College Football will be saturated by ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN360 (herky jerky broadband) and ESPN Plus (regional Big East, Big 10, WAC and Pac10)

Theyre up against Jefferson...um...Lincoln ..oh, whatever SEC and ACC syndication (Then again, there was "mizlou")

FSN has its Big12 and regional Div 1AA offerings .

What are the qualifications for e/i anyway. Fox does this Week In Baseball under the e/i banner. Why doesn't other sports get the same treatment? Could ABC have gotten away with doing a little geography lesson with maps and stuff and call the soccer games e/i? I am pretty sure that many teachers out there use sports events to teach their students something. And about College football..there's math involved. We just had a first and ten. the runner ran three yards. Team x has 7 more yards to go for another first down. Team X is on the TEam Y's n yardline and they are trying a field goal add z yards and that means team x is making a r yard field gol attempt.

How they get away with that, I have absolutely no idea. TWIB is about as E/I as The Simpsons.

I suspect the networks can call whatever they want E/I as long as it's not in primetime, live, or has a rating worse than TV-Y7.

Pro football involves math too. ;)
