espn radio 1240

Does anyone have any info on why ESPN radio 1240 WPBQ (Jackson) is off the air?
I know that it has been off at least since Tuesday (6/2). I believe it was on on Monday, but am not 100% sure, so maybe it went off the air at the end of May???
I have emailed the station, but the email comes back saying the receipt's box is full.
Any information would be appreciated - thanks!!

I've been wondering about it too. I hope that it's something technical. While not the biggest ESPN Radio fan, it is at least an alternative to turn to when I don't like what's on 620 or 930. For now, 92.9 from Hazlehurst will have to do (at least while in the car).

I've noticed that WJFN 970 in Brandon has been off the air a lot lately also. Mostly on the weekends. The audio is been turned down kind of low lately. considering its week signal, they need more volume.

Hey all -

A "friend of a friend of a person 'in the know'" has informed another friend of mine that ESPN on 1240 is gone as we know it. When WPBQ returns to the air, it will not be coming back as ESPN radio 1240, but rather, a long-form 24-hours a day "Dead Doctor's Don't Line" format. The General Manager departed on May 31st, which seems to coincide with their disappearance from the airwaves.

Allegedly, a 350-Watts sports-oriented station in Rankin County will pick up the ESPN programming.

This is fifth hand information and no warranties are expressed or implied.

Thanks for the update! I was afraid it was going to be something like that since it seemed that the station went off the air on the 1st. Hopefully ESPN radio will return soon to the Jackson airwaves with a strong enough signal that I can pick it up on my alarm radio - Mike & Mike in the Morning has woken me up for the last several years.

I've noticed that the WPBQ website has the calender that gives the listings for some of their programming is now blank for the month of june. So it looks like they gone. Just how many people listened to them anyway. I've never seen much of them in the ratings. Even WJDX barely makes the book, and they have a good signal.

What's happened to their signal? When they first took to the air, it was much stronger. In fact, I could even get it past Yazoo City in the daytime and out towards Clinton at night with a somewhat discernible signal.
