Would it be better if MEC Inc. swaped ESPN radio to 1550 AM.
They could have better coverage and not have any co-channel
interfernce, with a power boost of at least 10,000 watts
directional day and night, just my thought.

1550 can not be upgraded at all. It is limited by a whole bunch of stations like 1540 in LA, 1550 in Victor Valley, 1560 in Bakersfield, etc.

Keep in mind that 500 watts on 800 covers far more than 1000 watts on 1150 by a significant factor, so being on 800 now is far better than 1550.

David, always appreciate your insite. Is ESPN 800 avail to upgrade? It can't throw a signal east (XEROX 800), but at least it could put a decent city grade signal for San Diego. At night from my homestead in North County, ESPN is "there" but there is a lot of noise underneath of it. (I live near the KCEO towers on the Oceanside/Vista border near Melrose.) I believe there was some movement to have 800 up their power, but I see no movement on that.

1550 AM from TJ is not avail during the day or night in my area; ESPN 710 is good days only.<P ID="signature">______________

It is limited daytime by 790 in Mexicali and 790 in LA, and at night by LA and KGO in San Francisco. No way it can be improved.

Underneath XEBG 1550 at night I here another spanish station
I know its not the station in victorville, because they go 500
watts at night I was wondering were that station is coming
from.

Victorville or Fresno are the two most likely. Could also be another station from Mexico.

And why does San Diego even need an ESPN Radio affiliate? The affiliate from L.A. (KSPN-AM 710) has a strong signal in San Diego, according to Radio-Locator.

LOL you haven't tried listening after sunset obviously!! And though San Diego is largely Padres territory, there are plenty of Angels fans who can't get 710 at night but have ESPN Radio 800 to hear the games at least thru last season.

It is surprising ESPN Radio continues to air on such a weak signal. Stronger Tijuana frequencies with a history of English programming, other than the obvious, include XEKAM 950 and XEMO 860, but the best place to air might be on KSDO 1130. Does anyone know if a new call exists for 690, and how their new format is working out?I have read this board for a few years now, I always appreciated the insight, intelligence, and interest of the participants, I am very thankful to be a contributor now, and hope to be an asset to the board.

XEKAM is now part of Mexico's largest talk net, Radio Fórmula. XEMO is a part of large Tijuana cluster UniRadio, so neither of these would go English as Tijuana is a very big market in Mexico... market #5 or 6 in fact. KSDO is part of the Radio Nueva Vida net, including LA, San bernardino and SD. It is owned by a company which only does Spanish religion. Also not a possibility. Finally, XETRA just innaugurated its new format last week, so there are, of course, no results yet. It is not aimed at SD, but LA and its studios are in Burbank.

It takes a very powerful signal these days for a station to be listened to, even if it "can be heard." 710 does not have a listenable signal anywhere in SD County by these standards.
