Espn Radio commercial break time changes

I noticed this morning that Mike and Mike went to break at 6:51 am edt, over the last few years they went to break at 6:55 or so,it went on like this all day,I was so confused trying to listen to Espn Radio that I gave up on it around the time Dan Patrick came on at 9:06 am,then I tried listening again after Patrick went off at noon and it was still screwed up.Sportscenter was at the beginning of the break instead the end,but Sportscenter was still coming on every 20 minutes at about 20,40 and 00 after. It was just all screwed up,I also never heard any mention of the changes. The local stations had to know to be ready to run commercials.

I've never heard a station/network let listeners know ahead of time about their commercial schedule time shifts.
Unless it's a talk show host and he's running out of topics to talk about.

But seriously, why does it make any difference?
It's good to be flexible. 8)

Colin Cowherd let his audience know on Friday(5/30) that ESPN Radio was going to go to a new clock on Monday(6/2). I'm not sure if any of the other hosts did likewise. (bad move, BTW, IMO!) ??? :p

They flipped their clocks a few years ago by moving the :20 and :40 breaks before the SC updates (making them 5 minute breaks at :15 and :35) but this update is a weird one, they actively take a break in the first quarter hour (a segment that wraps around the hour, with the SC update), something not usually done in radio.

Do you think they did this to squeeze MORE commercial time in ? Or are they trying to compete with FSR & SNR? Just curious.

They have a short segment, then the top of the hour ID, the SC, then they come back for another segment.

In this scenario, it should be FSR and SNR competing with ESPN.

If this means less Freddie Coleman, Amy Lawrence, Jason Smith, and Tirico I like it.

Yes, I caught the mention of "a new clock" by the herd. I knew what it meant, but I bet most people just figured they were getting studio equipment. It drives me crazy. I'm guessing what happened was people would tune away from FSR after their sports update at the top of the hour. They'd go to ESPN who would start their segment. Additionally, I am guessing some sort of study came back about how long commercial breaks were and how long people were in their cars, etc. I don't know. Just some random guesses.

I don't think it had anything to do with Fox Sports Radio as ESPN Radio clearly is ahead of their product in ratings, advertising and content.
I bet it was more a reaction to the people meters and trying to get you to carry over in a segment each quarter hour

I think they made it continuous at the top of the hour (the wrap around segment) so stations wouldn't take a news source at the top of the hour (i.e ABC's 4 minute newscast or a Fox News Radio Update), if I was PD of a part time affiliate (only taking nights or cherry picking the weekend, etc.) i'd be PO'ed, no news opportunity

Now that you mention that, I think you're exactly right.

As far as I know it had nothing to do with FSR. It changed to help adapt to the new people meters.

...Ummmm...>ESPN Radio has O&O's in NYC, LA, Chicago, Dallas, Pittsburgh....the ESPN named stations in Philly, NOW Washington DC, Boston, Houston and probably a 100 more cities....you really think they care anymore about part time affiliates being able to take a 4 minute newscast at the top of the hour??? It is smarter to make sure you hear their show intros with the sponsor mentions and they are into the shows before the competition even begins.

Trelvis is right,,,has to be about the people meters....definitely not FSR...is any of their programming even heard during the day in any big city?
