ESPN Radio in Panama City

It looks like ESPN has landed at least part time on 101.1 FM. I heard ESPN programming through out the day and now it's C2C AM. Their site is under construction so this might be a format change in progress.

We don't have ESPN radio here locally, maybe Hale will wise up and convert 100.3 to ESPN Radio. That seems to be taking over.

Just a heads up..

Thanks Poledo....you saved me from jumping in Rob's s**t (again)....ESPN in Panama City is exclusively on 590 AM WDIZ.

WBSR 1450 hung on to music-on-AM as long as it could! I think they joined the 21st Century when---2011? Now they are all-out w/ an FM translator for ESPN Radio. Hmmmm

cd

WBSR has the rights to Pensacola's new pro baseball team. The games are selling out so the team must be popular. I suspect the team's owner may be financially supporting WBSR now. Last year WBSR had to settle for LSU Tigers sports... Maybe this year they can score a coup and get Bama or Florida?
101.1 has a pretty good translator signal reaching Perdido Key to Navarre to Pace to Gonzalez.

Poledo, When was the last time you listened? ;) WBSR had Bama this past season. The also have, Saints, Hornets, Wahoos, Ice Flyers all on lock.

I didn't listen. I had no idea Bama had an affiliate covering Pensacola. I knew where to find FSU, FL, and Auburn. I remembered ESPN 1450 launched with LSU coverage. If I recall The Ticket was carrying Bama but they dropped Pensacola coverage. I never saw it listed in the PNJ and never bothered to look. The PNJ was still listing the Ticket as the Pensacola affiliate for two local college football teams last season.

Being baseball season, and in Florida, I think Pensacola & Panama City need affiliates for the Miami Mar----scratch that.

Does the 101.1 out of Pensacola broadcast in stereo? This station did. I can see how Panama City can send out 590's signal as a 'cast..

I never knew 590 was ESPN, just a sports station. That's one hell of a signal they put out.

-Rob

When a FM station running ESPN Radio or Talk Radio they run on mono not on FM stereo.
AM-590 ESPN Panama City's Sports Station run by clear channel radio. Also in Dothan Ala.
AM-560 WOOF-AM The Ball is now running ESPN Radio.

Tallahassee has it on 97.9 ESPN Radio (Tallahassee's Sports Moster)

Actually, ESPN/Pensacola on 101.1 DOES broadcast in stereo. I know of a couple other around the country that do, as well. Makes sense to take advantage of the stereo for imaging, etc, to help the sound "pop". It sounds good if done well. Broadcast in mono if you really feel the need to squeak out a few more miles in coverage area.

Cool, ok, it be nice if WE can get an ESPN radio out here, it be cool to hear Mike and Mike in the morning. I guess our little city doesn't make much cents to put this up, yet we have Yahoo sports radio, which is very lame sounding and boooooooring.

With the 101.1 translator only being 10 days old I'm sure they are still tweaking and testing. No telling what you might hear on 101.1 for the next few weeks. The signal I've heard was mono. I think? Guess Ill have to pay a little more attention if you say it's stereo.

We've got baseball covered in PCB, FWB, and Pensacola. WAAZ is a 100kw Atlanta Braves affiliate.

I got a stereo carrier on 101.1 as well when I heard it last week.

It's a waste. ESPN, as far as I know, doesn't provide a network feed in stereo. So unless the local shows/commercials are produced in stereo (which is unlikely since the parent is an AM with equipment that probably dates to the Eisenhower epoch) it's a waste. I'd rather eek out the extra coverage with mono, like WHEP's translator here in Foley does. Ditto WDWR and WBHY and WIJD. As far as I can tell they *all* run mono.

And Rob keep wishing for ESPN in FWB. People across the country seem to be dropping Yahoo! like it's plagued so it could happen. Or it could become CBS or NBC.

Since WEBY was the former home to WMEZ with WMEZ playing hi-fi elevator music I'd guess its likely they still have some old 1970's vintage stereo production equipment over on Pace Blvd.

Answer me this good Dr. Why is WCOA 100.7 advertising coverage of the Ice Flyers this weekend if they are contracted with BSR?

Also, why is minor league Ice Hockey on a 100kw blowtorch in Dixie?

Here the Pensacola ESPN website: http://espnpensacola.com/

Yes thier website said ESPN 1450/101.1

Rob dont get us cousfed with info of the FM radio station in the Pensacola and Panama City area.

I'll give him a break on this one. Imagine if you lived in FWB (I know, right?) and heard sports on 101.1... Would your first thought be the bigger station in PC or the tiny little translator in Pensacola? The way some ESPN affiliates drone on without local IDs it gets frustrating trying to figure out who they are.

Desperation? ;)

WMEZ always had state of the art equipment. They used CD changers and superb processing before the sale to Cumulus. Both WBSR and WMEZ had a operator to fire the commercials and CD players 24 hours a day. The building was very 70's but the equipment was always updated and well maintained.

There is no need for a stereo pilot. The ESPN feed is usually sent in mono. The difference in mono vs stereo could be a difference of 10 miles of listening in the car.
