ESPN Radio in Tampa Bay Area.

Has anyone heard about when Genesis will be dropping ESPN programming. Has any other station going to pick some of ESPN. With the Major League Playoffs and World Series coming and all the games will be broadcast by ESPN, it would be incredible if No station in the Tampa Bay area wants this programming. If nobody does, I guess I will be finding it on IHeart Radio or ESPNRadio.com.

I hope someone makes an announcement soon about who carry the MLB playoffs and World Series, now that Rays are out of the playoffs.

The only incredible part is the amount of money and clearance time stations are willing to pay for ESPN programming which is available online for free and through their app for a one time fee of $4.99. Thats why Genesis dropped them.

If CC has rights to ESPN,they'll probably confuse the hell out of everyone like they do when the Rays, Lightning, Bucs and/or Gators play at the same time, by shuttling them off to 970 and 1250...except for the NBA in which only a few people will care...;if that many.

I heard Ron and Ian say that WDAE will carry many of ESPN post-season broadcasts. Hey Druid Hill, at least the Rays were in for 160 games.

ESPN might be a good fit for 620 once the new CBS network starts in January, as I've read rumors at least that Jim Rome is leaving Premiere to go to the new CBS network. That would mean his show would be moving to 1010, which will be carrying the network 24/7.

If 620 chooses to just plug ESPN into Rome's time slot, it would mean an hour of Colin Cowherd and two hours of Scott Van Pelt. Personally I might take Cowherd live at 10AM and start Ron & Ian at noon or 1PM.

Another possibility would be to take Mike & Mike in the morning (which is the show ESPN wants cleared the most) and move the current morning show to noon-3.

It's my understanding that in most markets, ESPN would prefer (i.e. you have to) take Mike and Mike with most other programming optional. Given that The WorldWide Leader has no other viable options in Tampa, 620 would stick with the Newspaper Boys to keep the Times happy.

As long as Ron and Ian draw some money, no matter how inane the content, theyll stay on.

Too bad Colin comes on mid morning as he's done pretty well here back to his days live at 820. Its funny, the people who hate him the most describe his show in the deepest of details...meaning they listen to almost every word he says. But they still think hes worthless enough to listen to 20 hours a week. Funny.

Van Pelt and his slice of the week? Meh.

Agreed 100%... that's why, if they want the best final result, taking Colin at 10 and bumping Ron & Ian back a couple hours would make the most sense.

@Studio20: That would be a tough break for Stroud and Jones if ESPN comes marching in and mandates WDAE carry Greenberg and Golic. Although if McEwen and Dingman over on Wild WSJT Play The Fan gain traction, anything is possible...

As for WDAE, the longtime FSR outlet, moving FSR to WHNZ in favor of ESPN... wouldn't it just be easieasier to just put ESPN on WHNZ? 24/7, perhaps?

Yes, but ESPN's product is better than Fox... it could take listeners from DAE and defeat the purpose.

I suspect, since ESPN has the MLB playoffs, this year. CC wanted to make sure that those broadcasts were on the stronger signal.

1250 is on a higher frequency and thereby does not travel as far as the lower power 620, which also has its signal over water.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

My guess the way I look at it since WDAE-AM 620 doing ESPN Radio overnights will be the new home of ESPN Radio and move Fox Sports to WHNZ-AM 1250 and WNHZ-AM dropped Impact Radio (newstalk). When ESPN Radio comes to Tampa Bay to returns to the airwaves.

I forget to said that sometimes around 8:30pm or 9pm or so I can still hear WDAE-AM 620 at night around the north florida big bend area as they dropped to 5,600 watts daytime to 5,500 watts at nights but another AM-620 also kick in as I hear both station on that dail.
