I know that I'm crazy for saying this but I won't rule out 104.5 FM becoming ESPN Radio with play by play sports from ESPN Radio. I bet ESPN Radio for years has complained that they haven't been on a Philly metro station with a clear signal across the whole area and they are not happy being on 920 WPHY AM because of their bad signal. ESPN Radio I think is heard on stations with good signals but not in Philly. I think that ESPN Radio talked to Clear Channel and begged them to be on a Philly station with a clear signal. I Don’t want to hear crap from the posters saying that they are fine with 920 AM because ESPN Radio really is not . They don’t want buy airtime on a non ESPN Radio station like 1210 AM, 950 AM to put some of their games on. I won't be shocked if this happens. Thoughts??

Probably not.

Clear Channel distributes Fox Sports Radio. Clear Channel stations doing sports take that.

This town can not support three sports stations. And syndicated sports talk v. local-live sports talk. No contest.

What are you smoking, Julius?

I meant to say Including local sports talk on 104.5 FM not all ESPN Radio

I will... Julius, it's not happening...

Besides, FSR is already cleared on WPEN.

I suppose technically a clearance, but WPEN now carries just one show from Fox Sports Radio all week-- J.T. The Brick. Weekend clearances are being reduced as well.

When are you going to get it through your thick skull that no one in Philly, besides you, cares about sports games that don't include Philadelphia teams (save maybe the NFL playoffs, which would air on WIP, anyway)????

Let's take last year's World Series: No one in Philly gives [EDIT] about the White Sox or the Astros.

You want out of market sports? Then get satellite, subscribe to the Comcrap digital sports package, or get one of the satrad services. Otherwise, just pipe down and focus on your obsession with WCAU-FM.

[EDIT-vulgar language]

I can't believe the responses on this. This guy will continue to post his frivilous comments if you guys keep responding to them. Everytime he post something, you guys respond as counselors and social workers....OK Julius, here's your response and now take your riddlin and go back to bed.

OK Julius, here's your response and now take your riddlin and go back to bed.

I think you mean "Ritalin."

And Julius doesn't seem to pay attention to responses. That's much of the problem.

I thought something along the lines of SPORTS would intrude on 104.5 (Maybe just cause of the 'S' i dunno)

I hope not.....A Sports FM station is garbage (Just look @ 103.7 WEEI -- What a waste))

Expect More Sports Formats On FM In The Future

I hope not.....A Sports FM station is garbage (Just look @ 103.7 WEEI -- What a waste))

According to whom? Actual research based on revenue, or your personal opinion?

What's an example of a format that's not a "waste"?

Not trying to be argumentative, just curious what your barometer for "waste" was when making that statement...

It's my understanding WEEI-FM is doing well for Entercom. Expect more spoken word programming on FM in the coming years, not less...

WPOP Hartford is Clear Channel and has carried ESPN Radio for years. In fact, it calls itself "ESPN Radio 1410." Before that, it was affiliated with One-On-One Sports.

Do you think that one of the format rumors floating around that 104.5 FM is a gamble at sports talk and a ESPN Radio affiliation? I won't be shocked if ESPN Radio drops WPHY as an affiliate and seeking a Philly radio station, WPEN should have taken the ESPN affiliation years ago but they passed. They need to take ESPN Radio now.

Julius: this is the second time, in the same thread, you have inquired about the chance of ESPN Radio and local sports talk going to 104.5 FM. You have basically asked the same question twice. Other contributors, including one of your allies, have already told you it's not happening. I don't think 104.5 will become a sports station either. Have you understood anything anyone has told you in this thread? I think we have been very clear in responding to your questions and concerns.

Did you read this part: I won't be shocked if ESPN Radio drops WPHY as an affiliate and seeking a Philly radio station, WPEN should have taken the ESPN affiliation years ago but they passed. They need to take ESPN Radio now.

Julius: I read everything you said. Again, what you propose is most likely not going to happen. Everyone else has said the same thing. End of story. Thank you.

Ok what do the Philly stations need to do to better clear national play by play sports and some local including the Penn Quakers Football team games. They are heard on the Trenton station, not a philly one with a decent signal.

The Philly stations need to do exactly nothing. They don't need national play by play. Period. If there was some glaring market other than your obession with the issue, someone would be doing it.

According to their website, WPHY is evidently airing Villanova and LaSalle basketball games this year. Last I knew, Penn Quakers football was on WVCH 740 AM. I don't think any Penn basketball games are on the radio. Why aren't you satisfied with this with what local college games that are on the radio? WPHY and WVCH are airing local college games. Too bad they aren't "national" games such as Notre Dame, Texas, Florida State, or USC. Deal with it. What you are demanding isn't going to happen. Pretty soon, you are going to demand that Delaware State University athletics be aired on WHAT or WURD, since Delaware State is a college predominantly geared towards the "african-american" student (such as the other colleges in the conference Delaware State competes in).
