ESPN radio on 1190

103.3 is not carrying the Rockies-Phillies playoff game this afternoon, contrary to what the Star-Telegram lists in the sports section. I stumbled upon it on KFXR-1190. What's up with this? ???

There's only so much Beatles music one can play. ;D

KTCK has 1700 for their second-tier stuff. Perhaps KESN adores their GAC so much, buying this cursed frequency was the next step?

In recent years, ESPN's post-season baseball has been on Radio Disney-620 or WBAP-820 when 103.3 had the Mavericks on. That's why I was so surprised to find it on 1190, which as far as I know, not in the ABC family. I'm curious to see if this means anything.

Anyway, it's nice to have it on somewhere so I can listen to the playoffs at work. ;D

Shoot, I'm just glad you issued the post so I know where to get my fix. :D

Since WBAP is no longer co-owned, the only option would be co-owned KMKI, LMAed KNIT 1480, or purchasing the time on some other outlet. ESPN has LMAed KNIT to run ESPN Deportes on it, but I imagine it would have had a Spanish-language broadcast of the game. So, I imagine they just purchased the time on KFXR. Perhaps they thought a Colorado-Philly game would have less appeal than a Galloway show talking about the Cowboys. The DMN showed the Col-Phil game on KFXR with the other two games tonight on KESN.

More than likely it's all about the money...

There's very few avails available to local affiliates in networked games- so ESPN (local) woul dprobably lose serious billing if they were to run the games...

But if they're contractually obligated to carry it in some fashion, buying the time on 1190 gives them the best of both worlds- they get to keep the high billing (for them) spots on 103.3, but they fulfill their obligation to carry the game-

First broadcasting signed up to air all the ESPN stuff on 1190 that wouldn't fit on ESPN... unless it interferes with the Aggies... then you're just SOL.
