"ESPN Sports Saturday"

I caught a little bit of this show on ABC this afternoon. Is this really worthy of a spot on network TV? It's basically filler programming - a weekly version of "SportsNation," which I've never really liked anyway. I want hard-hitting analysis and commentary when it comes to shows like these, not a couple of talking heads who have never played college or pro sports telling me what they think of the "best" plays of the day/week. Plus why should I care what the "nation" thinks?

The only reason why they show this is because ESPN wanted ABC affiliates to fill time up on Saturdays with that show. ESPN also wanted to promote their network with this show. With it, they can pump up their "30 for 30" documentaries, as they show reruns of them before they go to that stupid "Winner's Bracket" show.

A couple of times, they have shown new episodes, but they get such low ratings. For ESPN, ABC is like their second channel. Without this show, ABC would have nothing showing on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. They show reruns of their dumb reality shows, getting next to no ratings, so that the stations don't have to fill the time.

I'm rarely one to heap a great deal of praise on ESPN (their ESPN3 though will be an absolute MUST this college football season, though). Sports Saturday beats the ---- out of the same lame infomercials that show up during the summer or "Desperate Housewives" or "Extreme Home Makeover" reruns.

Besides, with the World Cup you have an audience...um...a smaller one...that might not be familiar with ESPNs overall fare, and want to put out a sampler plate for their new guests...
