ESPN Suspends Tony Kornheiser For Two Weeks...

... over comments made on his radio show that is not produced by ESPN!

However, they were rather choice words on ESPN colleague and "SportsCenter" host Hannah Storm. Tony did apologize on his radio show Tuesday for the remarks, and apparently will continue to host his radio show during the time he is on the sidelines at ESPN.

Full story:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2010/02/tony-kornheiser-hannah-storm-espn.html

(How long before his radio station pulls a "Hulu" and yanks Friday's podcast, on which the comments about Storm were made?)

wow....I can see him looking at a woman who is 50 trying to dress 20 and not being impressed....but you have to
be a world-class moron to go and verbalize all of those thoughts on a national radio show!

On the contrary; his current show is in Washington, D.C. only. Though a previous incarnation of his local show was simulcast over XM. And, of course, his previous nationally syndicated radio show was on ESPN Radio.

Did not realize that. My local ESPN affiliate is O&O and preempts much of their national feed for local shows.

So I guess he only meant to trash his colleague to listeners inside the Beltway? Should not make things too
awkward then when he returns from the two week suspension.

I believe you're in Pittsburgh... Anyway, for an ESPN radio affiliate to preempt a great deal of ESPN shows, is frowned upon by ESPN - but that's a topic for a forum not named "National TV"...

Great point on how Tony's local comment went national, though.

Kornheiser at one time was a decent newspaper columist. Then he was the posterboy for every radio sales manager promoted to general manager who sold their soul to local newspapers to get their columnists on sportsradio. The warped thought was if he can write, he can talk...and because the paper pays him full time, I can pay him part time, and i can fire my full time radio people...the mecca of this swill is espn's own Around The Horn

whatever leverage he had over people at one time may finally be used up. his track record of nastiness with other people is finally being made public. He believes himself to be this generations Howard Cosell. Tony, you arent qualified to wear his toupee. Do our Nation a favor: If you must share your verbal seed, stick to the newspaper gig and please die a slow and painful death with them...

For those who may not be aware, Kornheiser left The Washington Post not too long ago. I believe they reprinted a lot of his old columns toward the end of his run. But this brings up a great point: I wonder how the Post would react had Kornheiser still been on their payroll... then again, the Post has their own controversy surrounding another one of their marquee names, Sally Quinn (go to DCRTV or just Google it)...

His comments were not kind, however, good grief we are getting to the point of having to select each and every word carefully. Food for thought. What if those type of comments were made about a man?

I agree. Political correctness has gone too far. It is starting to intrude on free speech rights.

If you ever want an idea of the women Kornheiser thinks are sexy, watch the "Happy Time" segment at the end of "PTI" on ESPN (this segment is edited out of the ESPN2 rebroadcast an hour later). Some of the "happy birthday" recipients are celebrities who have nothing to do with sports. I've seen the likes of Zsa Zsa make the list. Whatever floats your boat, buddy. ::)

Plus, it isn't "across the board". If those comments were made about a white man no one would raise an eyebrow. Had those comments been made about a select, not all, minority, he would join Jimmy the Greek, Imus, and Greaseman.

Dating back to his days when his midday show was forced on to wztm's airwaves in tampa he was miserable and not the least bit a "Team" player. Political correctness aside, his unprofessional attitude and nasty personal attacks on people should have kept him out of OUR business and kept him in print.Half the time he was insulting people that no one outside DC knew or cared about. He would take gratuitious, mean spirited swipes at Tampa Bay until ESPN thought it was a great idea to hire him away. Once they did, whichever ESPN stations in Tampa had the chance to air it, never did.

I saw her in that outfit. She was hot! Kornheiser is a blind moron.

Yeah, I'd 'hit' that too!

She does look pretty damn good - out of Kornholer's league for sure. His remarks had a tone of sour grapes about them (making fun of that which is out of reach). And yes, the remark (as is the case with much of what Kornholer has to say) was distasteful. As you may guess, I am not a fan.

However, be that as it may, it's just his opinion and the guy is paid to share his opinion on the air. If you don't like it, call him and argue - or turn it off. He didn't say anything profane, nor did he say anything that would be in violation of FCC codes. Yeah, it was distasteful; then again, so is much of what the Speaker of the House has to say. And Keith Olbermann. And many, many other publicly shared comments that come from New York, Hollywood and Washington, DC. We don't have to like or agree with every publicly uttered opinion and that's the beauty of free speech.

Another clear case of political correctness run amok - and this sort of thing is truly out of hand. ESPN is already on my radar screen as far as heavy-handed lefty organizations go. Well, the blip just got even bigger.
