ESPNNEWS future

Yes live Sportscenter 24/7 if not then 6am to 9am and call it Good Sports America Morning. Theirs not a n ESPN3 TV Channel only Online version. Would like them to bring back on their Sportscenter page who's doing them for the day. Also could do Sports Millionaire and Jepoardy and Bloopers. Could also do a 24/7 Sports Movie/TV Show Channel,Regional Channels,24/7 Sports Radio Channel with all it's Radio Shows on it. Also do baseball Coast to Coast and Baseball Live in the Afternoon's. Show MLB and NHL Draft to.

Does the rabid sports fan even need ESPNEWS anymore (as it was conceived)?

Forget new or refreshed sports channels from NBC, CBS, and Fox Sports for a moment--ESPN may have made the channel obsolete through the company's own innovations. Breaking news is going to get pending airtime or instant BottomLine coverage on one of the two mothership networks, and SportsCenter doesn't look out of place on ESPN2. Plus there's the capability of ESPN's online and mobile platforms/apps...on-demand highlights and news are a computer, smartphone, or tablet away.

One can say the same thing about the original purpose of CNN Headline News. Websites and smartphone apps have pretty much made headline services all but obsolete.

I think with ESPNN it's WYSIWYG (What You see is what you get)...Third choice in mainstream ESPN programming. Will carry Sportscenter when ESPN & 2 are on events, replays of SportsNation, etc. during low sporting event times (late night, early morning)

If ESPN were smart (and that would be saying something), they would reformat either ESPN Classic or ESPNEWS into "ESPN Radio on TV." They've got three of their hosts already on TV, albeit on different channels, and Colin Cowherd's show seems so out of place on ESPNU (remember, the "U" is supposed to stand for "University," and college sports isn't all that Cowherd talks about). I had thought they had wised up a year ago when they moved Cowherd to ESPNEWS, but some numbskull decided to move him back to ESPNU.

Isn't HLN (previously known as CNN Headline News and headline News) about to change it's name to The Justice Channel??

Why not just call it Court TV? ;D

Doesn't Turner still own the name?

Since 2009 that's been ESPN's plan; to make ESPNews irrelevant by using SportsCenter to keep a steady audience on ESPN instead of various sports events through the day, and of course the sports talk on ESPN2. ESPNews just had their last program cancelled, Highlight Express, and the only other program that airs on their channel and not others is an overnight video replay of a soccer podcast. With more overflow sports, especially the NASCAR Nationwide Series bumping over to ESPNews, I don't expect it to keep that name within a year.

If they do change the name of ESPNews, why not rename it ESPN3 and rename their online-only channel currently known as ESPN3 to something else?

Then what would be the purpose of ESPN Radio? It's not like EVERY show the network has is simulcast on TV ya know. Afterall, there IS a reason for that.....

Cheers & 73 ;D

ESPNNEWS isn't going anywhere. True it airs the start of events impacted by overruns on the other networks BUT news is its primary purpose & that will only continue

Cheers & 73 ;D

"SVP and Rusillo" don't deserved to be simulcast, that's for sure.

Yes it does and so does Coachman and Company and the ones on Weekends. On ESPN Game Plan you have Hear Game Night.

ESPN when ever to 5:30am Sports Movies,5:30am Local Sports Show,6am to 9am a show like Good Morning America but in a Sports version, 9am to 10 am Sports Bloopers,10am to 11am Wipeout Reruns, 11am to Noon Sports Nights Reruns,Noon Sports family Feud,12:30pm Sports Jeopardy,1pm Sports Millionare,1:30pm, another Sports Game Show and rest of day Live Sports.
ESPN2 6am to when every Tennis/Soccer and when those aren't on Sports Shopping Show.Sports Reporters Daily,Numbers Don't Lie,PTI,Around the Horn,OTL,NFL Live,College Football Live.NFL Insiders,Baseball Today,Sports Nation,ESPN First Take and so o 6pm to when every Live Sports.
ESPNNEWS Live Sportscenter 24/7 with a Central version and so on to.
ESPN Classic become ESPN Radio TV or even Sports radio TV.

I always assumed these extra channels existed so that ESPN had overflow room for games that end up on top of one another. Something's got to fill the rest of the time.

Up until recently I got ESPNNews for free as part of my digital package (Comcast in SF). It was just moved to a different "tier" and now I don't have it -- and don't really miss it. But I thought it was odd they'd think anyone would pay extra for it.

Yeah, I (in the North Bay) noticed that about a month ago.(Same with ESPN Classic, and Fox Soccer, two others I rarely, if ever, watched).

Sometimes they put Mike&Mike on ESPNews while ESPN-2 do tennis but Mike&Mike main channel is ESPN-2 weekdays 6am-10am. What about ESPN Deportes if anyone watch that if u get the spanish package.

ESPN
ESPN-2
ESPN-U
ESPNews
ESPNDeportes
ESPN3.com

The main purposes of ESPNNEWS:
(a) Overflow when they have games (for example) ongoing on ESPN/ESPN2 and a third game ready to start on ESPNNEWS
(b) Somewhere to run SportsCenter when ESPN and ESPN2 are showing games
(c) Somewhere to run sports talk shows (SportsNation, PTI, etc) for the Pacific Time folks.

ESPN wants to keep ESPNNEWS widely distributed because it has very little value if it is a premium network. So ESPN will program it and charge for it in such a way to keep it on the same tier as ESPN/ESPN2.
