Which is it: WDOD, WAEZ, WWST? Judging by presentation, music, balance, etc.

Shouldn't the Cookeville CHRs be included? Magic 98.5 and 106.9 Kicks FM?
I'm really happy with the variety of music heard on the new 96.5 The Mountain, but my favorites are Electric 94.9 and Kicks FM out of Cookeville.

I agree with Chrles, Electric and Kicks fm are my favs.... Except back a year or two ago when Electric was moving in the AC direction. Luckily they cut that out and returned to their All the Hits Format, with plenty of Rhythmic Crossovers. It seems Star 102.1 was better when they were on 93.1, even though 93.1 was a pea shooter signal licensed to Karns. I wish Mix 95.7 was still around in K-town. They were a nice variety CHR/Hot AC hybrid. They had a huge playlist, including many 90s tracks, which included Rhythmic Dance and Hip Hop, something that most ACs dont touch. In case you were wondering, Mix 95.7 was licensed to Marryville, so their signal in Knoxville was kinda weak, but not too bad. Their signal would hang on all the way to the Kentucky state line on I-75, about the same place Star 102.1 becomes unlistenable. I still want to see another mainstrean chr, or at least a rhythmic or Rock station on 100.3, the old WOKI...... Its ashame that powerful signal is being wasted on talk radio now days, they dont even run the stereo pilot anymore. At least Power 99 in Atlanta got reserected back to CHR, as the new home for Q-100.

The reason there is no stereo pilot anymore is that is contributes noise to an othewise mono format and contributes nothing to audio quality. Hallerin, Boortz, Rush, Phil, Sean, etc. are all speaking in mono and turning the pilot on opens up the L-R decoder (stereo information) and makes the signal noisy. 99.1 and 99.3 (the Sports Animal) are operated in the same manner. It actually improved reception in areas where the received signal may be less than saturated.

It's kind of hard to judge "The Mountain" already since they are so new. Plus I haven't heard much of it since I'm on the outer edge of their signal. But as for who is best, I'd have to rate these on different catagories.

First of all for music, I would have to say Electric 94.9 plays the best variety. Star 102.1 tries to be too adult, sounding like a Hot AC during the day and still not taking many chances at night either. I like Hot 104.5's music but their playlist is way too tight.

For best jocks, it has to be Star. Most of Electric's jocks sound small-town-ish (I know, it is a small market) and most of Hot's jocks sound quite lame for such a hip, rhythmic format. That's not a diss to the jocks on Hot. They would just sound better on Star. Hot needs to find some talent from the hood, if you know what I mean.

And best jingles/sweepers/positioning I would give it to Star 102.1 as well.

Is there a hood in Knoxville? If so, is there enough "hood folk" to fill it?

Whatever happened to Rich Bailey at Star 102 in Knoxville, he was there forever! Anyone who knows, HOLLER!

Turn on the radio you should. On in afternoons he is. Do not underestimate the power of the dark side.

...Oh no he didn't!! HaHa. Not only did he say Electric's jocks were small town-ish....he may as well said that Hot needed some African American "flava". I sit here with my spilled coffee and wonder just what or who he may stir up "over therrrrr". LMAO.
