Well RADIO TRUTH I also have a RCA 77, a 44 (both Kane rebuilt) and an honest to goodness U47 from 1957 that says Telefunken on the badge.
They all are excellent microphones and are unique in every way.
Given that today's audio processing is nothing like the "max brothers" or Sta-Level of your era, and the age of home high fidelity systems has given way to personal entertainment devices and ear buds, I dare say no one would notice or care if one of those vintage classics was on the air today.
I want a mic in the studio that can take abuse. EV, Shure, Beyer, Sennheiser and Heil dynamics do just that. Certain MXL and many Audio Technica condensers are also up to the challenge. And when they finally get to meet Harold Camping they are reasonably inexpensive to replace.
My hi-fi used to be all McIntosh. It looked cool, sounded magnificent but as my life has changed and evolved it became impractical. So is the idea of using valuable mics like RCA ribbons in most radio studios today.
Now if I was recording someone like Shelby Lynne, Ray Benson, Diana Krall or the late great Lou Rawls, I'd only want to use my best vintage mic.
