EVA 95.5

BTW, Does 1440 really use the slogan "Goldmine?" I thought it was AZ Gold. Perhaps "Goldmine" is only a nick name adopted by the users on this board?

Correct. I believe it was the good Doctor Akbar that coined that name.

IIRC, they called themselves "The Goldmine - AM 1440" a few years ago. I don't think they use that slogan anymore.

I would assume because the name was taken when they tried to make it legal

Not only does Lumberyard 14~Forty use "...your all day goldmine.." as a sweeper, but they have a jingle that goes like this here: "...from the goldmine, Arizona Gold, Kay A Zee Gee". But Nurse Jeff and I know the Goldminers don't have a pick ax up their undies when it comes to copyrights, trademarks, or even the way they sign off at night. It's a pretty Mellow Yellow operation down there by the canal bank!

Hmmm...a little hornet's nest here between the two Goldmine camps? ;)

IIRC, the Lumberyard has been using "Goldmine" references in sweepers,
liners, jingles, etc., for a number of years now. And when did the EVIT FM
sign-on--earlier this year? So how would Gumpdusky know that the term
"belonged" to another station, when the other station wasn't even on the air?

Perhaps Steve's lawyer will need to send Chuck's lawyer a C&D letter. Just so
this doesn't keep the Lumberyard from playing Kookie and Mrs. Lumberyard's
fave Frank tunes!

As Steve mentioned, He applied for KVIT with the FCC back in 1999 under the name "Goldmine." Obviously KSLX-AM (1440's calls back then) wouldn't know about something in the works, but the name shouldn't have been available in the state of AZ, so if Steve wanted to do something, he probably could but I'm sure he's not concerned about a smaller AM signal that has a total opposite audience.

This thread surely did breed an interesting mix of people here. I guess the musical diversity of EVA is also reflecting through on the radio-info boards!

Eva = playlist is all over the place, no specialty shows, BUT EXCELLENT SIGNAL

MEGA = Solid playlist, Mix & specialty shows, but POOR SIGNAL

MOVE ON UP EVA!!

I pick up MEGA just fine in my car and office. I only lose it when I get downtown so I assume the buildings get in the way.

MEGA still sounds local so I find myself listen to them to more than Eva. I don't think Eva is Old School they sound like a KEZ to me with a urban flare.

The original Goldmine will, and always will be, 1440 Arizona Gold. They've been using the slogan "Goldmine" in their bumpers for years since they signed on in 2001 and their slogan actually fits the format of KAZG: playing worn out golden oldies from the 50's and 60's*. While EVIT radio may have the official name of "Goldmine" with Ken Bennett and Co., the name fits better with KAZG's format.

* Disclaimer: Excludes Frank Sinatra tunes, Neil Sedaka singing about "Laughter in the Rain" and a little ditty about a "Summer Breeze" from Seals and Crofts.

So who thinks Eva has a lock on train wrecks? The "Twice 103~Five" memorial trophy has been on the Lumberyard mantle at 14~Forty for a while as well!

I remember the days of the morning programming meeting in a certain GM's office always beginning with turning the dial to 103.5 and waiting for a segue. Then we could go about discussing business. Good times.

The last time I drove from Phoenix to San Diego, I had MEGA with a clear signal until I was about 35 miles from Yuma. I lost all the other local Phoenix FM stations shortly after crossing the Pima River bridge on AZ 85 heading towards Gila Bend.

Clear has some excellent Adult Urban stations...WSOL Brunswick-Jacksonville and V101 in Sacramento being just two. If they aired Joyner and Baisden and did good ADULT urban music product that is not being aired on Mega 95.5 might well work but sadly it sweems as if the people at the helm at 95.5 don't have the background or understanding of what makes an Adult Urban station succeed. I have this feeling that one day we will see a 550/95.5 simulcast and a 910/104.7 simulcast as well. Cox, Entercom, CBS, and Bonneville are all going that route in other markets so it stands to reason that Clear, which has migrated NT to FM stations in Tallahassee and Panama City can't be far behind.

are you saying 550 will simulcast Eva, and 910 will simulcast Kiss? or the other way around? The FM numbers are great so I don't see the reverse happing

BTW, I'm sure CC could easily bring in an Adult Urban station to Phx (if they wanted to), since they have already done so in other markets. So that tells me the only thing stopping them is the fact that it would flunk? Eva is in 5th place. No need to really shift again.

I just noticed he said Mega 95.5! Good one....

I feel Eva will eventually morph into Urban AC more. It can be done in Phoenix. The best way to do it would be by dayparting the station. More Top 40 crossover old school R&B during the weekdays, then in the evenings add more Old school R&B (more SOLID Urban old school, not just crossover hits.)

Eva also needs specialty shows on the weekends to help build an audience as well.
