EVA vs. MEGA

Which station sounds better? Both seem to be pretty much the same sound. It seems both identity as Urban AC's but really they are not. Kind of like a hybrid classic dance sound. I wish EVA would sound like sister station KTU in New York or MIA in Miami. This market actually needs a strong Rhythmic AC format now that it looks like Hot 97.5 has gone full blown dance.

From a purely technical aspect, Eva sounds better than Mega. Better signal, better processing, better production value.

But from an entertainment perspective, it's Mega hands-down.

Mega is limited by budget and signal constraints largely out of their control, but they do the best with what they've got. It's like soul food...the humblest of ingredients turned with love and patience into a tasty meal.

Eva is also limited, but the constraints are deliberate and imposed by bean counters at corporate. It's like fast food...the cheapest of ingredients packaged into a passable meal with shiny packaging.

Today I heard the same Temps oldie on both KYOT and KOOL at approx. the same time.

KYOT was a bit "tinny" sounding, compared to KOOL--which had a "fuller" sound, with
lows as well as highs.

I think Mr. Ford explanation is how I feel. I think Mega does a better job, but Eva has better sound quality. ;D Personally, I would like to see Eva expand their playlist or one of the stations expand their playlist by adding some new school urban AC to their playlist. :)

Eva 95.5 has nice crystal clear signal quality. However, Mega 104.3 carries a better overall old school format. Also, unlike Eva, Mega is still somewhat freestyle friendly.

Hot 97.5 isn't full blown dance. They're "hits & dance" or "Hits. Now." or "hits with Energy!" or "The Valleys hits & dance" or "Hits & Beats". They play a few mainstream dance hits an hour along with a lot of top 40 pop dance, although there seems to be an increase in dance material on a weekly / monthly basis. However, I notice that they are now playing at least one downtempo hip hop hit an hour. They've readded Drake's "The Motto" and they still have Jay-Z ft Kanye's "Paris (That "Cray" song) in rotation. They also started using Wiz Khalifa's "work hard play hard" quite often along with rather frequent plays of J. Cole and semi frequent play of "bottoms up" by Trey Songz and "young wild & free" by Wiz Khalifa. I'm not exactly sure of their method when it comes to their entire playlist selection (especially their recurrents), but I believe when it comes to the dance material, they probably pick the most mainstream top 40 crossover potentials (or things that score the highest on the actual dance charts).

I must admit that ever since I looked up Hot 97.5's playlist while in LA during spring break and discovered that they were the first ones (already) playing Calvin Harris "feels so close" in Phoenix, I knew something was up with Hot 97.5. Heck, not only that, but even back in December, January and February when they started busting out with The Wanted, Example, and Breathe Carolina way before everyone else, I knew that Hot would most likely become hotter, eventually becoming my new station down the road.

I'm sorry but Mega is a complete wreck in my opinion. From the ratings, doesn't sounds like many people listen to agree or disagree with me.

Multiple times I've heard the morning traffic still be the traffic report from the evening before. You just can't make mistakes like that or you're going to lose credibility fast. Something that station can't afford to do right now.

This phychic who's on in the morning? Who wants to hear that over music? How does that work? Do they sell the time to him so it's a revenue generator? Is that how that works?

Playing the news intro with no news following it... just the news bed running. More mistake the station can't afford to make.

I have been a fan of Mega for some time. It's sad to see a station make simple, rookie mistakes like that when they really don't have room for errors of that kind. Do the jocks just not care? Are they not into it?
