Anyone who ever worked in the Lafayette market and specifically KVOL in its heydey has probaly heard by now, former owner, general manager, curmudeon Evan Hughes died a few days ago at age 96. He was tough and demanding but appreciated those of us who love radio. He once told me....There are 2 types who work in radio......those who show up for their radio job.....and those who are radio people. Amen.

Evan...enjoy your view from those perrywinkle blue skies !

Some interesting additional information, from his Lafayette Daily Advertiser obituary:

"Mr. Hughes, had basic radio training and promotional background acquired at Columbia and New York University, with air and hands-on training at WNYC, WHN, WOR, Mutual and National Broadcasting Blue Network."

Pretty hefty resume, from the git-go.

Never met him during all my years in Acadiana, but heard his name invoked many times -- always in a positive light, but most frequently in something like "THAT wouldn't have happened if Evan Hughes had been running it."
